Carville's Attempt To Topple Dean Fails (NY Daily News)
Hil's no dump Dean fan

Her camp sez Carville on his own in coup bid

BY KENNETH R. BAZINET
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - James Carville's attempt to topple Howard Dean as chairman of the Democratic National Committee failed after state party officials and even a vocal critic of Dean crushed the coup, officials said.
Insiders from the Clinton camp winced at Carville's untimely remarks last week calling for Dean's ouster in favor of unsuccessful Senate candidate Harold Ford of Tennessee.

"It was not coming from and they made a real effort to distance themselves from James' comments," said a source close to the Clintons.

The Clintonistas don't want an undeserved backlash from the activist wing of the party that overwhelmingly supports Dean, especially because some anti-Clinton Democrats have blamed Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) for the attack by Carville, a longtime Clinton insider. Those forces claimed Carville's motive was to topple Dean in favor of a chairman more favorable to Sen. Clinton's bid for President.

Carville's remarks last week came as House Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) bungled the race for Democratic majority leader. Party operatives acknowledged the Carville and Pelosi sideshows were detracting from their election victories.

2. Nice To Know That Deaniacs Get SOME Respect from the Party!
The Democrats have the opposite of an echo chamber==the anechoic chamber, where ideas and messages go to die a very quiet death, unregarded by the leadership, ignored by the voters. This has to change if we're to have any luck cleaning up the nation.

3. It's all about the money
Dean has the ability to raise huge amounts of money. The netrootz came through in a huge way this year, too.

I've previously defended James Carville on this site. No more. The gloves are off. It's time for he and his K street buddies to find another line of work. I know I'd rather win, and have the Democratic Party represent all again, instead of a few.

:hi: Demeter! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

8. You Are So Right, Julie!
That's the only thing moneygrubbers respect: money! Now, where can we find some statesmen and women, some patriots, and some people of moral, political, and ethical courage?

And a Happy Thanksgiving right back to you!

4. "Bungled" the race for majority leader? Sometimes I wonder if anybody
over age 25 is writing news copy anymore. Or maybe their brain cells are just fried, and they can't remember when we used to have DEMOCRACY in Congress. Disputes. Fair fights. Taking sides. Voting. And pulliing back together. Nobody in lockstep. Lots of discussion. LOTS OF disputes--about policy, about leadership. Remember, remember, remember....

This.

Is.

What.

Democracy.

Looks.

Like!

5. P.S. And, boy, am I glad to have James Carville out of our hair!
Bye-bye, James! Go topple a democracy in South America, why don't you?

No, on second thought, please stay out of Venezuela. How about...Uzbekistan? Saudi Arabia? Iraq? I'm sure those folks could use some political "consultation."

6. Brittle and unstable is the DLC.
And who can blame them? Consider that they allowed Joe Lieberman off the reservation, into outright cohabitation with the * Iraqi war party.
Lamont's primary victory forked the DLC between triangulators and the strongly resurgient center-left of the party becoming the voice of the Democratic Party in Del. Rahm's heavy handed target intensive strategy, weighed against Dean's 50 state policy, proved arguably to have not justified the expense and alienation. So out of this already charged environment comes Carville belching toxic waste into the post election buzz.

This will not be forgotten any time soon, and I suspect it is gonna cost the James and Mary show dear.
OTOH, I suspect that a tiny bit of Jim Webb's recent amazing stuff on class warfare in teh US is in minute part,
a response to the ancien regieme's blue contingient performing a poorly thought out buzz-kill of serious proportions.

The third way has made some grievous errors, the worst of which seem to be the belief that the pubs would have anything
to do with bi-partisanship in general, or the Clinton's in specific. Another is one sided trade organizations such as NAFTA. Yet a third would be
allowing too much deregulation in key areas.

During the Reagan years, AIDS had almost killed hedonism, then Slick Willie won... twice.
Suddenly it was not cool to like Pat Boone again. They may want to triangulate the economic conservatives out of the republican party,
but alas, GWB has bested them at getting paleocons out of the RNC. Of course, it helps when it's an inside job. The DLC increasingly is trying to capture a constituency that shrinks in relationship to the effort they spend persuing them.

Nafta has been emblematic of the bleeding of domestic value out of the ecomony.
Offshoring and outsourcing have more than decimated the American labor force. And
the weakening of the working class has been callously exploited by the military.

And the weakening of the EPA and other agencies even pre 911 has led to a string of disasters both man made and natural whose expenses are going to be ongoing and punishing. And they did little or nothing for Gore, whose vision drives the class of 06 toward a greener America, a participant in the world's fight for a non-fatal world climate change.

There is a paradigm shift occuring, and the Neocon/theocon republican party has brought it on. Only a handful of Dems were opposing Bush in a meaningful, consistent way. And we here at DU know who they are. We need to make sure their voice, which resonates with the voters loudly in places like Kansas, Missouri, and other places the DLC would rather not think about is not demeaned, shut out, or ignored. This is about the future, science, and planned change, not economic chaos and profit.

7. And this was especially irritating...
that Carville started the attacks on Dean when Dean was meeting with Democrats Abroad in the Dominican Republic. Betcha that really went over big when they heard that. Most of the Dems Abroad groups appreciate that Dean is working with them all over....

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/669

"Things took a sharp turn for the worse this week, while Dean was out of the country searching for more votes amongst the vast and groaning diaspora of overseas Democrats, a trip he had postponed until after the crucial election. Americans living abroad are a distinct species of political fauna. No longer mesmerized by the American media, they are able to observe the impact of Washington’s foreign policy from a new and starkly refreshing perspective. Few if any Americans abroad support the outrageous neoconservative policies of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney."

"Carville planted the first dagger into the back of Governor Dean while he was away from Washington attending the conference of the Americas Division of Democrats Abroad meeting in the Dominican Republic to organize voter registration among the millions of US citizens now living overseas."

9. Good For Dean To Go Where The Reserve Voters Are!
The man is a visionary! So glad he waited until after the victory, too.

Can we please run this man for President, now?
