Well folks, that's it. Time for me to pack it up and head on out.
NO...not DU :)

Ohio.

To California.

Welcome to the outer limits.

And I could use some help from my friends here at DU (not money, though if you are rich and bored, hit me up!).

Please allow me a few short paragraphs to explain:

I lived in California for a few years then moved back here to Ohio to be close to mom and try and see/find my sons. That was 8 years ago. I brought with me a wonderful woman, AutumnMist, who left her home to be here with me.

My mom died on 12/31/2004. My X died on 4/4/2005, and I finally got to meet up with one of my sons. We caught up, and I am now a grandpa.

I bought the house next door to my mom, and 4 months later she passed on. That killed me. Worse yet now, my dad thinks my sister is the greatest thing in the universe (home schools, goes to a fundie church, and her kids can do no wrong. My brother and I are looked down on. Basically, family is torn apart) and our relationship is basically fallen apart, except on rare occasions where he shows a wonderful and deep love.

My wife's parents have a rent house that is now empty, and they are willing to let us move in there. It would be good for my wife who knows very few people here - there she would have all her old friends and family, which will help a lot as her disease progresses. My daughter would have family members who want to see her and spend time with her (no one here does).

So basically, the next step is for me to find a job out there (Bakersfield, CA is where we will be living).

There is nothing left for me here now, and everything for her out there. I am in the computer field (I manage a large data center and have a staff of 10 engineers reporting to me).

If you know of anything out that way (and yeah, I am checking the job boards, just helps to have an inside track) please let me know.

---end transmission, you may now view other threads, Please refrain from mentioning Pelosi, *, Clarke, Rangel, Kramer, or the Crocodile Hunter :)

If you feel a flame coming on, please use super unleaded, as the regular stuff just clogs me up ;)

and thanks for clarifying in the first line that you're not leaving DU (whew). Good luck to you and AutumnMist.

3. Welcome back to California!
I don't live close to Bakersfield (Stockton), so I can't help with the employment. I hope you find something pretty quickly. You do know though that that area is pretty red. Good luck!

I am not rich and don't know anyone in the computer biz. Sorry.

I will be moving from Salt Lake City to Encino in a couple of months. Not looking forward to the shaking, but I guess you get use to it after a while.

...say you could care less how I feel

but how many of you that sit and judge me

'ever walked the streets of Bakersfield"

Cali is a great state, it's where I grew up. Relax, don't jump to conclusions about anything or anybody. You're a good guy and you should enjoy the West Coast. Hell, if you decide to venture up north for a week-end, give a holler! :hi:
