NEW YORK - US authorities brought terrorism charges against two men for providing satellite broadcasts of Hezbollah television channel Al Manar to US customers, according to an indictment unsealed on Monday.

Saleh Elahwal, 53, and Javed Iqbal, 42, were charged with providing material support to Al Manar — branded by the United States as a foreign terrorist organization in March — the indictment said. Each faces a maximum of 110 years in prison if convicted of all 11 counts.

Both men pleaded not guilty during a hearing in Manhattan federal court. Elahwal was released on $400,000 bail, while Iqbal was released on $250,000 bail. snip

Iqbal, a Pakistani who moved to the United States 24 years ago and lives in New York, was arrested and first charged in August with providing satellite customers with the Hezbollah-operated channel.

1. Wait a minute, whatever happened to freedom of information?
What good is freedom of speech if only popular views are allowed?

12. i used to get it on my free-to-air dish but it was taken off by the US govt; it was
pretty crazy, i'll have to admit. they used to really glorify the suicide bombers and show a lot of stuff to whip people up into a frenzy of anti-isreal/US anger.

4. When BushCo does it, it's free speech.
Like when we plant fake stories in the Iraqi press and the American press.

Oh, wait -- those WERE fake stories.

Chomsky calls this the "wrong agent fallacy".

...channels that are freely available on the airwaves. When I was a kid this was the sort of thing that was held up to us as examples of why other countries were dictatorships.

7. The 700 Club Should Be Considered As Much a Terrorist Organization
For promoting the prayer to have Supreme Court Justices killed, to call for the assassination of a democratically elected leader of a democratic nation (Chavez) and for praying for disasters to wipe out towns in the U.S. that don't vote for anti-abortion or for conservative laws.

9. WTF? I'm starting to get the feeling that there is no hope for this country.
So, we aren't 'allowed' to be exposed to alternate perspectives?

11. There goes our Constitution
Unless we expose the big 9/11 lie and the whole "War on Terrorism" for the greedy murderous fraud it is, Fascism is exactly what we'll get. That is the REAL political choice we have to make now, and we don't have much time left.
