The other day this Irishman cut me off in traffic.
I was havng a really bad day, and it was simply the last straw.

"Get out of the way, you fucking mick," I shouted, "Why are you here, anyway? Why aren't you in Ireland, getting drunk off your ass, choking on potatos, and blowing up buildings? Fucking mick!"

Here's the funny thing: normally, I never even think about Irishman. I see a redhead walking down the street, and it's like no big deal to me. I have lots of Irish friends!

Honestly, I was just having a bad day. And I had been drinking. I'm not a racist, I promise!

Yes. In his "apology" statement, he makes the same claim that Gibson made: that the racist drivel spewing from his mouth is completely alien to him, and he doesn't understand how it happened. A small group of people are buying this. I call bullshit (and I'm Irish, BTW).

...(he's Irish)and I can't wait to show him this post! I'm lmao at this post. Thank YOU! So FUNNY! He's going to crack up!! Prior to running an errand, I was reading to him from some of the threads. He was so appalled that so many were willing to give that asshat a pass or make dumb excuses for his comments. We call bullshit too, FinnFan.

Thanks again! :hi::pals: Have a good evening!

49. It's a real bummer when you have a few drinks and turn into a raging bigot.
One time I was sitting around with some friends, drinking, and then suddenly I started goose-stepping around the room and screaming Heil Hiter at the top of my lungs. I charged out the door intent on racial purification and ended up setting fire to a black church and firing shots at a gay bar. I was still screaming epithets when the cops wrestled me to the ground, but fortunately they and my other victims understood that my actions had been caused by the demon booze once everything calmed down. It's a good thing people aren't responsible for their actions when drunk.

I've had to explain several posts that just a few folks got without the apology and explanation.

But I HATE the sarcasm smiley. I use sarcasm to illustrate the absrdity of a particular opinion, and I think that that little guy blunts whatever effectiveness there is in the message.

His nickname was "The Mick!" It was in his HS yearbook and everything!

23. What's sad
is that there's a tv show from Britain (a superhero sitcom called "My Hero") that's pretty funny, but tends toward derogatory humor aimed at the Irish. I remember being somewhat astounded when I first realized it.

WE may think it's absurd to use the Irish to illustrate this point, but in some places it really isn't absurd at all. Nor was it all that absurd a hundred years ago.

Not that I'm admonishing you for it. It's a good illustration, really.

As a multi-nation Celt myself (Irish, Scot, and Welsh--with a bit of NA thrown in), I'm not offended in the least.

44. His life is hardly over and hardly ruined
He made a ton of money from Seinfeld which should support him well if he has not blown it all on drugs and shady investments and extravagant living. He's gonna make a fair amount of money from the DVD that Seinfeld was promoting today on Letterman.
He may always have a black mark on his reputation, but being a double murderer has not diminished OJ too much. Unlike OJ, he has ample opportunity to redeem himself.

46. You can't buy back your reputation
Look at the fiasco caused by OJ today - he'll be the evil character in nursery rhymes someday. OJ is a pariah - if that's not diminished, I don't know what is. I will never look at "Kramer" the same way again - I'll analyze him now to see if I can figure out where he was hiding his true hateful self. You can't buy back your reputation.

48. diminished yes, but neither over nor ruined
I wrote NY Times columnist about his over the top rhetoric about Trent Lott, and now here is Lott a few years later in a leadership position. How important is reputation. How important should it be?

"An' I don't give a damn
'Bout my bad reputation
The world's in trouble
There's no communication
An' everyone can say
What they want to say
It never gets better anyway
So why should I care
'Bout a bad reputation anyway
Oh no, not me
No no, not me

I don't give a damn 'bout my bad reputation
You're living in the past
It's a new generation
An' I only feel good
When I got no pain
An' that's how I'm gonna stay
An' I don't give a damn
'Bout my bad reputation

Oh no, not me
Oh no, not
Not me, not me"
Joan Jett

Although this has made me think - there were never any black characters on Seinfeld, except the lawyer modelled after Johnnie Cochran who always gets humiliated by Kramer.

40. Too funny...
My best friend always calls me a stupid mick, of course between myself and my sibling, we have pretty much every ethnic Irish stereotype covered...
Lemme tell you a little story about a man named Johnny Tarr
He was a hard drinking son of a preacher, always at the bar
Lager from the tap or shots of Paddy from the shelf
He could open his throttle and throw backa bottl as quickas the devil himself ... Johnny Tarr!

Word got around that Johnny Tarr was no pretender,
From Clare to here they'd lock up the beer when Johnny went on a bender
Down at Dickey Mack's, the Rising Sun, or at the Swan
If he was drinking at seven by ten to eleven well all the booze woulb be gone! Johnny Tarr!

Chorus:
Even if you say it yourself, you wouldn't believe,
And I wouldn't trust a person like me, if I were you
I wasn't there, I swear I have an alibi
I heard it from a man who knows a fell who says it's true!

It was nine in the morning on a cold rainy night,
Johnny rolled into the Castle Bar, looking to get tight
He had money in his pocket, he had whiskey in his eye,
He said: Get up off your asses and set up the glasses, I'm drinking this place dry!

Now all the serious boozers, they were soon broken hearted
When Johnny finished off six and he was only getting started
Guzzling down the pints, knockin' em back like candy,
He was lookin' alright to be drinkin' all night, then Nora brought out the Brandy! Johnny Tarr!

Chorus

Johnny drank the whole damn bottle, had another pint or two,
When it made no impression he started his session with Murphy's Millenium Brew
He was waiting for a pint when his face turned green
Jesus, Johnny fell down after only fifteen!

You could have heard a pin drop, then the crowd let out a roar
It took five cork women to lift Johnny off the floor!
The doctor looked him over and said you better call the hearse:
but it's not what you're thinkin' it wasn't the drinkin' this man died of thirst

Chorus
