Poll question: You have absolute power for one day here in the US. What do you do about Iraq? |
|
You have a day to change it all, what would you do to fix this? I put in an 'other' option as I am not wise enough to be able to have all the answers for the poll.

Not one more thin soldier for the corporation. Not one more dime to the war industry. Not one more dime to the propaganda machines. Not one more drop of our blood period. How many of our young could have received advanced education for the price of these pigs? How many homeless, how many malnourished, how many are just plain ignored in our country?

first I would order the US troops to stand down and stay on their bases. Next i would gather together the spiritual leaders of American Islam and ask them to form a delegations to go to Iraq and talk to the various Sunni and Shiite factions to negotiate a cease fire and find out what there concerns and ideas are about the country. I would authorize this delegation to emphasis the fact that the US wants to settle this as soon as possible and will do every thing it can short of more killing to help them rebuild there country and make peace with Islam and the world. Then and this the most important part, follow through with the promises we made.

2. heck, if I knew the answer to that, I'd run for president |
|
I lean toward the first option, but I'm afraid of what would happen.
But I do know, that if I were president, I'd never have started the war in the first place.
That's why it's important that we stop electing evil idiots president.

3. Invalidate all contracts with U.S. corps to rebuild Iraq. |
|
Give the contracts to Iraqi companies. Hire people left and right and pay them well to rebuild essential infrastructure. There will never be democracy in Iraq without a middle class and there will never be a middle class as long as U.S. corporations win no-bid contracts to suck money out of the country.
Gradually withdraw troops over the course of two years. Immediately withdraw all mercenaries and replace them with trained, accountable U.N. troops.
Those are the big two off the top of my head.

4. I clicked the first choice, but don't agree with the "leave Iraq as it is" |
|
part. We "broke it" and should 'morally' help to fix it, but that has complications of it's own! Gawd, what a mess!!!

5. I institute my "Ten Point Plan" |
|
1.... Apologize for ruining their country 2.... Hire every man from 15-50..give 'em a 1 year contract for $1,000.00 a month 3.... Unload shipload after shipload of plywood, nails, tools, tile, wiring 4.... "Offer" the assistance of engineers to help (finally) rebuild their wretched infrastructure 5.... Invalidate all those shifty "oil deals" that Bremer put into place 6.... Set up "mash-style" hospitals in every community of any size. 7.... Turn over the Green Zone monstrosity we have built there. 8.... Vacate ALL our bases, and turn them over to whoever they choose as "their army" 9.... Move all our forces to Kuwait and then straight home 10... Tell the Saudis that they need to step up to the plate and help their "neighbors" settle their differences

The Saudis are relevant only for their money. Iran Syria Jordan and Turkey are the regional powers that need to agree to allow the people of the nation formerlly known as Iraq to determine their own future political arrangements without interference.

Yes, it will be a blood bath, but it will be a blood bath 6 months from now, a year from now, 5 years from now. The only thing that changes is the number of soldiers we sacrifice for Bush's folly.
