As a nation, we really look stupid. |
|
Sorry to say it, but look around you. Two weeks ago we told our 'leaders' we want the war to end. How many have died in the last two weeks? How many will die within one month of the election? How many in 6 months?
Its hard NOT to look stupid as a nation when you have george bush as your president. He is stupid, his words are stupid words, his actions stupid, his whole cabinet is apparently dangerously stupid, and the stupid nation sits around doing nothing to stop the alarming, rampant stupidity.
We started a war, and now we can't get out of it? We can't win it, and we don't want to lose it. Its a disaster, yet it goes on who knows how far into the future? Dangerously unstable maniacs, and that's not an exaggeration, have taken over our government, and it took us 6 long years to figure it out. How stupid is that?
After this disaster has all played out and the actors have left the stage and the whole theater is burned to the ground we'll all stand around looking stupid and ask, 'what the hell happened'?

1. I'm sorry, but who is "we"? |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-21-06 07:01 AM by loyalsister
"WE" really should stop making assumptions about the referendum of the vote. As a healthcare advocate, dealing with people who are severely disaffected the war was not among their top reasons for how they voted. They have voted Republican in the past but had to get fed up with medicaid cuts to switch. But, it was all about self interest. Many are either in the uber nationalistic pro war camp or couldn't care less. But without them Claire McCaskill would not be Missouri's senator. I am against the war and want them to find a way to bring it to a close, but I really think that those of us who feel that way need to keep our perspective. The legislative branch got us into it by passing the IWR and opening the door. Since we have a representative government, we own it. The new representatives and sentators have to work with the ones whoo started it to get us out of it. But we are being petty if we try to pretend it all belongs to Bush. We had a Democratic senate that could have put the brakes on this thing. The country was out for blood, and they went with that nationalistic mood. We citizens and the legislative branch own it to expect instant results with the new congress is unrealistic.

2. The "we" is probably based on all that polling data that showed the war was the #1 issue |
|
History depends on simplifications. If you don't simplify things, even the history of the last two weeks has too many data points for the alert mind to process. On the balance (and given the polling data I've seen) I think asserting that the election was more about the war than about medicaid cuts is not an oversimplification.

3. It's all about perspective |

And if you are willing to look at the big picture. Much of the media pollster's noise has been about about the war, however there are some basic electoral truths that should not be ignored. Most people vote out of self interest. Most people are not being directly effected by the war. Think about it......

4. Sister, your argument is based on sincere assertions of your beliefs |
|
For that matter, so is our presense in Iraq. The argument made by people who look at the polling data is based on a recognized method of scientific research. I don't doubt your sincerity, but it's hard to argue against facts with only reiterations of personal viewpoints (unless you're the secretary of defense).

13. How is polling data interpreted? |
|
Who interprets it? Certainly no one has anything to gain? I'm going with general basic tenets of human behavior rather than pretending that the rest of the country agrees with me.

and it's not just the politics. I can't wait to sit home Friday and watch our nation embarass itself yet again, as we trample over each other to get to the cheap laptops at Wal-Mart..

6. Stupid is as Stupid does |
|
I remember a time when even the stupidest of people would have been embarrassed to support a stupid candidate.
Something really strange happened during the 2000 campaign. We knew Goober was stupid--but no one in MSM could bring themselves to say it. They said he lacked "gravitas" but never mentioned basic intelligence. After every campaign stop, after each debate, all we ever heard was "he did better than expected."
In other words they set the bar so low that a crippled cockroach on crutches could have jumped over it and that made Goober look presidential--or so we were supposed to believe.
Somehow, some way, Rove & Company were able to convince a whole lot of simpletons in the Midwest that Goober (a Yale & Harvard attendee)was "Jis lock them." It's unfortunate, but the rest of us are guilty by association. Would actually be kind of funny if people weren't dying every day as a result of his misguided decisions.

10. Stupid was believing Dems would make a difference |

We started looking stupid when we allowed Bush to occupy the White House back in 2000. It's only gotten downhill from there.

He told me about two freeper tourists that were demanding a tour guide that spoke "American". Not English. American. The other English speaking people in the group couldn't help but judge at the ignorance and stupidity of these two American tourists.
