The LA Times' Robin Wright mentioned on Meet the Press two days ago that the White House (not the Pentagon) was going to come out with its own options for what to do next in Iraq so they could frame the debate and so Baker's study group wouldn't be the only options out there for consideration.
I don't want to dismiss the work of those in the Pentagon who were actually tasked to put together this
"Go Go Go" plan but I don't see anything new here. Truth be told the White House (Rove) should have included a fourth "Go" as in "Go d'uh!”
Sounds wonderfully optimistic, progressive even doesn't it? Well this is why you have focus groups-first they gave us the color coded terror warnings and now they directed this new little sloganfest away from the original "Holy f**king s**t!" options plan as in:
"Holy f**king s**t! They are going to kill everyone!" (Go Hard)
"Holy f**king s**t! We are going to be there forever!" (Go Long)
"Holy f**king s**t! RUN AWAY!" (Go Home)
Lastly let's not forget the timing
Tomorrow is travel day. If you aren't traveling it is probably prepare for hosting day. Either way news won't be much on people's minds so getting this out today preps the conversation both on the lonely loveless holiday punditry crowd but also around the dinner table. Since many of us are going to fill the roll of "Weird liberal hippie uncle" anyway this might be something to keep in mind and bring up so everyone can be amazed at how wonderfully original (read: Whacked out liberal hippie uncle) you are-that is that this is just more of the “empty spectacle” its not that there is a man behind the curtain its that there isn’t a man behind the curtain, the curtain is all they have. You do LOVE the curtain don’t you? DON’T YOU!?!?!?
They have clearly put about as much thinking into this “Go Go Go” plan as I did for this post (I’m being kind) unfortunately it is years too late. This is what has always been there. Nothing new here regardless of what you hear over the next few days.
