6. OK, why are we paying for his security?
He couldn't bring Secret Service along with him? Or use a military escort? And now three of our officers are injured because of his visit, which does not even include any public appearances (protesters, y'know); he was only on his way from one military base to another a couple of miles away. :grr:

21. Local police always provide escort...
the D.C. Police Dept. does when he's here in town. D.C. residents pay for FEDERAL security, and they don't even have a vote in Congress. It is a travesty.

7. It Seems Everywhere * Goes An Accident Happens! Coincidence?
How much of a coincidence is it that so many people who ride along with Bush end up in an accident?

Everywhere he goes, accidents just seem to waiting to happen.

Check that 'black cloud' over Bush, is it bad karma?

29. It's the voodoo curse put on him in Indonesia
Looks like a problem with a tire on Air Force One, too.

US President George W. Bush will arrive in Indonesia on board Air Force One on Monday after a tyre problem on the plane was fixed, an official said.

The president was to take a smaller aircraft rather than the distinctive blue and white jumbo jetliner on which he usually travels after his Boeing 747 needed repairs.

"They had a problem with one of the tyres. They were able to find a replacement tyre, which they have replaced. We are back to normal," White House spokesman Tony Fratto said.

Let's see, a motorcycle crash, Barbara's purse and cell phone, SS agent beat up in both Argentina and Hawaii, a tire on Air Force One. Hmmmm. Maybe the curse worked.

10. I find this a little puzzling
The road is clear of traffic and three, repeat three, motorcycles crash. I see by the photos that is was raining, but what on earth caused the crashes on a clear road?

12. Easy, they are regular cops and they were assigned to escort the President of the US.
They were probably so wired to keep everything professional and accurate looking and focusing on protecting the convoy that they weren't so aware of their own personal space. One guy probably slipped from the rain and the other two just weren't looking. No different than any other multiple pile up car accidents that we see every day on the road.

3 motorcycle officers crash in Bush motorcade

snip...
City ambulances took two officers to The Queen’s Medical Center. One officer, 30, was in serious condition and the other, 36, was in stable, according to a city emergency services spokesman. Federal emergency personnel took the third officer to Queen’s, but the condition of that offcer was unknown.

The accident, which happened on a rain-soaked road on Hickam at about 7:15 a.m., occurred well behind the president's car and the motorcade did not stop.

15. Rain-soaked road? Not likely...
The accident, which happened on a rain-soaked road on Hickam at about 7:15 a.m.,

Radar shows only light showers across O'ahu this morning. My bus went through one which had stopped by the time we reached downtown (a fairly common occurrence hereabouts), but by no means was the road "rain-soaked".

16. I know. From looking at the pics the road looks wet, but not rain-soaked.
Not much info yet. I had to piece together 4 different articles just to get the little info I posted so far.

Maybe more info will come out later.

18. here comes the conflicting info...
One story says they were behind the motorcade, this one says had just ridden past the motorcade...

snip...
As Bush left a guest house for breakfast, three police motorcycles escorting his motorcade crashed on slick pavement and rolled onto a grassy median. Officers were seen lying on the grass, and members of the White House medical team — including an ambulance — were cut loose from the motorcade to help, said Dr. Richard Tubb, Bush's doctor. Local ambulance and fire units also were sent to the scene.

The three cyclists had just ridden past the president's limousine to jump ahead and control traffic when they crashed.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061121/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_149

and from rain-soaked to light rain, slick roads....

snip...
The Honolulu Police Department said that ambulance and fire units had been sent to the base, where light rain had been falling on the partly cloudy morning, and some roads on the base were slick.

Two of the officers were transported by ambulance to Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, said Bryan Cheplick, a spokesman for the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.

20. Okay, this make more sense
"One of the motorcyle officer's bikes slid under the others, according to a spokesman for Hickam Air Force Base. "

That accounts for the three crashes. And...

I don't know how much rain they had before this point, but a little is more dangerous than a lot. The first rain of a season turns roads with a buildup of oil into very dangerous things.

24. "The president was very concerned" and he gave a commemorative presidential coin...

from the latest article...

Motorcycle Officer Critically Injured In Motorcade Crash

snip...
A 30-year-old officer's condition has worsened. He was last reported in critical condition. He underwent surgery for internal bleeding.

"The injuries are severe enough that it could go either way," Capt. Frank Fujii said.

snip...
"The roadway that they were traveling on was not the typical asphalt that is out there on the public roadways," Fujii said.

The president apparently saw the injured officers. Moments before leaving he requested an update on their condition from Maj. Stephen Kornegay. The president gave the major a commemorative presidential coin for the hospitalized officer.

"The president was very concerned," Fujii said.
