HAPPY FEET penguins flipping out righties!
Ok, I have not seen the current #1 movie (in sales) yet - but Happy Feet seems to be flipping out (pun intended) some righties.

A quick check of a few rightwingnut blogs, like Redstate, reveal a not too surprising fear mentality. They whine that the movie is "environmental propaganda" or has a "hidden far-left agenda". One conservative blogger went as far as saying it's Hollywood's attempt to brainwash children. Right, seen Jesus Camp lately Mr. fear of brainwashing? The movie does not hide references to global warming, pollution, and animal exploitation. Mumbles, the star penguin is encouraged to follow his heart, not the old superstitions of some of the elderly penguins. Somehow the fearful see this as anti-religion???

The penguins do have reason to be afraid of the "aliens". In this case the aliens are US. Good on a kid's flick that actually has a thoughtful storyline. A story that colorfully reflects real life issues and values that have to do with making the world more habitable for ALL living things.

Checked the mainstream reviews where on balance, it gets mostly good to very good grades.

I remember a while back, some on the religious right were freaked that SpongeBob Squarepants was promoting a gay agenda? Why are they so afraid of cartoons???

Well, I hear Bugs Bunny is a liberal and I know Elmer Fudd is a conservative. Anybody notice who always wins....

22. George Miller directed Babe and Babe, Pig in the City
I knew his name sounded familiar when I saw it on the adverts but I didn't make the connection until he (Miller) mentioned it himself on some program I saw on HBO.

then it MUST be good!

7. When you play the movie backwards
it provides instructions on how to take away the tax exempt status of "christian" churches in America (Only Christian Churches.)

And if played just a little slower then normal time while playing backward it will convince "conservatives" that they must engage in homosexual activity to succeed in life.

Not to mention the godawful environmental agenda pushed on all who watch it played forward.

Its the conservative version of intellectual curiousity.

8. But you have to remember, Bugs Bunny dressed in womens clothing and...
kissed Elmer Fudd...

That's enough for the religious right to brand Bugs as gay.

10. No wonder these people are so miserable...
They place a political stigmatism on everything. I saw this movie Saturday. It was entertaining, funny, thoughtful, and teaches a good lesson about stewardship to the planet on a MORAL and HUMAN level, which of course goes way over their heads.

16. Why? Because for all of their very vaunted Faith, these are people who
have so little Faith in the Truth that they think that which is True is not Real unless everyone makes it real by joining their group. Bunch of Peter Pans, "Do you believe in Fairies?"

Central Park Zoo's gay penguins ignite debate
Dinitia Smith, New York Times

Saturday, February 7, 2004

(02-07) 04:00 PST New York -- Roy and Silo, two chinstrap penguins at the Central Park Zoo in Manhattan, are completely devoted to each other. For nearly six years now, they have been inseparable. They exhibit what in penguin parlance is called "ecstatic behavior": That is, they entwine their necks, they vocalize to each other, they have sex. Silo and Roy are, to anthropomorphize a bit, gay penguins.

20. Imagine being in a political movement that views environmentalism as "the enemy".
The very ground beneath your feet is to be hated, apparently. I just don't get these people.

..noticed any "hidden liberal agenda" in the thing. Luckily they don't have to actually see it now in order to lamblast it.

24. Corporate PR guys know all they have to do is label anything as a "liberal agenda"...
..and a certain segment of society (the right) will automatically oppose it no matter how apolitical the issue actually is (like environmentalism and global warming). I have to laugh whenever I hear some right-winger speak of the hidden liberal agenda behind the global warming "hoax." I ask what that agenda could possibly be and I can never get an answer. Yes, those PR guys knew what they were doing.
