I'd like to see some legislation that addresses "presidential papers" |
|
If we are to have nepotism-run-amok in our government for the foreseeable future, we need to have some cut-and-dried LAWS regarding presidential papers.
As you all recall, Reagan & Bush1 administrations were due to have their papers released, and would have been if Gore had been allowed to claim his victory.
When that did not happen, Junior practically ran to the Oval office so he could "hold" those papers, and immediately secured BOTH in Texas..
Republilcan control in both houses guaranteed that they would not stand in his way. But there is a new sheriff in town
BC has said that he's ok with HIS papers being released early if they want to, but of course if Hillary ends up in the Oval office, it might be to HER advantage to hold those as well..
Can congress revisit this and ensure that those papers are released as they have been before?
I think 6 years is a decent interval after one leaves office..
The public has a right to know. and it's not a bad idea to release them while the people who held those offices are still alive and kicking, so they could be "asked" about why they did what they did..

2. This was one of chumpster's earliest executive orders. |

(stopping the release of poppy's papers and then his own) It should have been a warning siren to Americans, that the BFEE had lots of stuff it wanted to keep hidden.

3. There's No Such Thing As "Presidential Papers", They're All "Public Documents" |
|
We the people paid the President's salary (no matter which one we're talking about), bought the paper, paid for the ink, and cover the rent on the vault their stored in. How in hell are they anything other than the people's papers, and therefore public documents?

4. That's exactly why WE need to CLAIM them |
|
NO president should have the "option" to set his papers, or those of a previous president, aside..
Personally, I think we should have IMMEDIATE access to them.
Especially since we are in a "perpetual-war-forever", fresh eyes should always be able to scan for omissions and explanations.
They should not have the "option" to give us dribs & drabs in multi-million dollar book deals..especially when they never show us their warts in those books.
