So, who might be responsible for today’s killing of the Christian Lebanese cabinet minister Pierre Gemayel? Who most benefits from further chaos in the always highly inflammable Middle East? The assassination was exquisitely timed; just as Syria and Iran develop agreements of mutual support with Iraq . . . bang! bang! bang! another political killing.

The Bush Crime Family – as they always do when these unfortunate events occur – immediately issued statements condemning the killing, declaring this is no way for nations (or others) to make nice as they work toward, um, democracy and, um, freedom. But, a cynic might suggest today’s murder will have the net effect – at the very least – of making it even more difficult for Iraq, Syria, and Iran to get beyond their recent bloody past and work together at what most observers of the Middle East say is churning among these three nations: A united front against both the US and Israel.

So, who benefits from this political killing?

In order to find the answer a cynic also might want to know today’s schedule for the usual, um, suspects: The CIA, Mossad, Hezbollah, and Hamas. There are so many, many dots begging to be connected.

And, more than likely, that’s how they will remain.

158. I think the War Powers Act should be amended to state that if

the President is going to ask Congress for the authority to go to war and Congress grants that authority, a draft is automatic. Too many citizens were GLEEFUL at the commencement of the illegal invasion of Iraq and too many of our elected representatives voted for it because they thought it was politically advantageous. Maybe people would have been more concerned about whether there were actually WMDs and a link to 9/11 if it meant that their children would be drafted.

Any authorization to deploy the military at a wartime footing shall include an authorization to draft the required number of troops to replace the peacetime contingent going to war. Upon cessation of the wartime footing, the draft will end, and the draftee's will be discharged.

Think there would have been all the flag waving enthusiasm about going to Iraq if there was a risk of little Preston or Ashley being one of the 140,000 drafted for the war?

Unless there is a built-in mechanism for immediate sacrifice, there will be politicians willing to beat the war drums and place the cost on the national credit card and the manpower burden on the economically disadvantaged, immigrants and mercenary armies.

This really cannot be done until the current hostilities end (if ever), as the intent is to be a deterrent, not to provide more cannon fodder.

On edit: Probably should be an amendment, so in the event some Chimp trys to game the system, it would be an impeachable offense.
