At work today. We had a management position open, duties included managing a staff of semi-professionals who use a complicated technical inventory management program for a distribution company. I did not apply for it, as the last time the position was open, I was told I just didn't have the qualifications they were looking for (I've used the program for six years as one of the aforementioned semi-professionals, and have previous management experience including budgetary responsibilities, personnel management, contractor management, etc.)
This time there were four people who survived the first round of cuts, three of whom had program experience, management experience, etc. Guess to whom they gave the job?
The blond with no experience but augmented breasts.
I'm not kidding. What the hell?

3. I'd quit but I'm over 50 |

and there's just not anything out there to go to right now . . . or in the foreseeable future. I'm developing a deep aversion to corporate America. For god's sake, is it 2006 or 1956?

2. This company is ripe for a lawsuit |

I'm sure the manager is doing the blonde bimbo on the side. PM me the company so I can make sure it's not a company we are working for.

4. Are you sure her only qualifications were her ummm "Puffies"? |
|
Do you know her resume?
Do you know that she isn't qualified through other just as equal means?
I am sorry you are unhappy, but I won't throw her under the wheels of the bus without more to go on than her bust size.

I DO know her resume. Her previous experience was in support roles, and she has NO knowledge of the primary technical program the staff uses. This is a line-of-business department, primary revenue kind of stuff.
The word most commonly used in the office today was "dumbfounded" at the decision.

That's presumably the excuse they would use for age discrimination. And if it's okay for corporations to age discriminate I guess it's okay for everyone?

14. Is it possible management picked the person who would expect the least $$ |
|
yet might manage to grow into the job?
The candidate who will work for less seems a big consideration for too many companies now. Sometimes it isn't so much that younger is cuter. Sometimes younger is naive, expects less and is more easily flattered, fooled, and manipulated.
Just a little something to consider. ;)

20. Give the blond 2 weeks |
|
If she doesn't understand her role in this job, she'll eventually find herself in a unemployment line in the Colorado Dept of Labor
(Speaking of which, CDOL *FINALLY* decided to approve my appeal for a 4,000 overpayment while I was unemployed due to lack of evidence, thusly eliminating this said debt)

10. Corporations discriminate more |
|
I'm so much happier since I quit my job with a corporation and work for a private business now. My wife still works for one that has a management trainee program and every person selected for it (or maybe 90%) was a white male under 30.
Corporations are bad. They only care about their shareholders. They are virtually prohibited from making any decision that is in the community's best interest, if that decision stands to lose a stockholder twelve cents.
There really ought to be legislation that compels corporations to act on behalf of the community. That was their original intent.

because I've spent my entire career trying to overcome the typical stereotypes about women in the workforce, you know, we are too emotional, we are periodically unstable, etc. etc.
I've been professional, honest, hardworking, had integrity, and watched men who snorted coke on their desks and tried to drive company cars after spending evenings drinking, get promoted left and right. I've been hit on by my boss, hit on by the corporate attorney, yelled at, downsized, etc. Now I find out all I had to do was flash a little cleavage?
I guess I'm a slow learner.

As my prior post implied this is one of the primary problems of our time, directly resulting from the way corporations operate. They are beholden to their shareholders, and not their employees or the community. This is the "elephant" in the room so to speak, something Cons accept as a part of life. But it's not natural, it's not something people are supposed to tolerate.
