DU Memorial Forum --- It's an idea?
A forum for memorial threads for members we have lost. I wouldn't want the threads moved from their original position for a few days, but to move them to a special forum would serve as a nice tribute to those we have lost.

Ideas or opinions regarding this?

1. This is a wonderful idea. There are so many DU'ers I miss.
It would be terrific, not just to have a forum, but to have access to some of their more memorable posts (not the whole thread, unless it was possible).

Skinner? Thanks for listening!!

2. Semi-related to this
I was wondering if it would be possible to see the last day that someone posted when you look at someone's user profile. There are a lot of people I haven't seen for ages and it would be great to be able to check up on them to see if they're still around and I've just been missing their posts or if they've gone awol.

6. If you do a search for "author" you can find

when and what a person last posted. It's best to search one forum at a time since GD, GDP, LBN, and the Lounge have so many posts.

11. That would work...
I keep forgetting that I have a star now. But people who haven't donated don't have search capabilities. And it takes a lot of patience to search every forum. There are quite a few people I'm casually interested in (enough to check their profile) but not to spend an hour each searching every forum.

16. I've done it a number of times and it took less time

than you might think. Of course, YMMV. (Your Mileage May Vary) But it's worth a try on one or two people.

17. Also,
(don't know about the technical feasability or anything) but maybe on the profile page there could be a place for people to list their status as active, retired, taking a break (for how long) or whatever- so it could be easier to keep tabs on some friends. I lose track of who has left forever, who's on vacation, who changed their user names, etc. It would be nice to be able to leave a note for interested parties.

3. It would be nice to be able to read their posts and
also nice to know when last logged in. I have had the same concerns when a regular is missing.

Maybe even possibly a thread within MY DU to prewrite our own DU Obits? Skinner could publish upon notification of our deaths? May sound too morbid to some but I know when I go out there are words I would like to leave behind.

7. Great idea and it would be nice if there were photos.

I know photos have often been posted after a member's death, and there are also photos in the Gallery. Sometimes family members or others have posted scanned obituaries, too.

9. Dear Skinner, please consider adding this forum
On the internets our posts may be immortal, but in real life there is no Wayback Machine. As this community grows and matures, it would be nice to have a place to remember those who can post no more.

I like the idea of an interactive forum where members can leave notes for departed friends, but simple tribute pages would be nice too.

The bottom line is that on the second link, everyone should have posted to that thread the names of those we have lost, so that can be sent to Skinner et al.
All we need to do is send that link to them with the addendum of eggbeater's name.
THis is what the admins asked me to do, but I got sidetracked by some election work.
Please forgive me.

18. Give lil the Kudo's they thought of it first!
I had missed your other posts in September about it (probably for the same reason you were sidetracked).

Kudo's lil and was going to say sorry I had missed this before but actually am not sorry for campaigning :)

21. Oh definately..
..certainly this is not about who got there first, but I did have a go-ahead from the admins, so I figured it would be good to link the two.
Thanks to YOU for getting this back on the radar!!! It is sorely needed, especially today.

15. K&R. Great idea. Give everyone a chance to weigh in...
and then when the thread quiets down, move it to the new forum. Mods? Site owners?
