"Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!"
(Sir Walter Scott, 1808).

It's sad. Everything bad that our nation is now experiencing was born out of deception. It's all a game. We'll call ourselves "compassionate conservatives". We will divide and conquer. We will use abortion and gay marriage to divide our people and we will win. Nobody can stop us because we have deceived ourselves into a permanent majority.

We will tell people that the Iraqis are a threat to America. We will say they have WMDs and are ready to make nuclear weapons which can be used against us. We will spend like drunken sailors and deceive the people into believing that it doesn't really matter. We can spend as many trillions as we want and never worry about paying it back because deficits don't matter. We owe it to ourselves.

We will privatize Social Security because people can use the magic formula of compound interest to become wealthy and we don't really need Social Security anymore, they told everyone. Yes, it's a tangled web they have woven. Deception has given birth to arrogance and greed. They now deceive themselves. What were once vices are now habits...
