John Fitzgerald Kennedy - Born: May 29, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts. Died: November 22, 1963, Dallas, Texas

"A nation which has forgotten the quality of courage which in the past has been brought to public life is not as likely to insist upon or regard that quality in its chosen leaders today - and in fact we have forgotten."

"Unconditional war can no longer lead to unconditional victory. It can no longer serve to settle disputes... can no longer be of concern to great powers alone."

"The very word 'secrecy' is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths, and to secret proceedings."

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.
To state the facts frankly is not to despair the future nor indict the past. The prudent heir takes careful inventory of his legacies and gives a faithful accounting to those whom he owes an obligation of trust."

"Tolerance implies no lack of commitment to one's own beliefs. Rather it condemns the oppression or persecution of others".

"A revolution is coming - a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough - but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character, we cannot alter its inevitability."

"Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth."

"Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.

"Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures."

"I look forward to a future in which our country will match its military strength with our moral restraint, its wealth with our wisdom, its power with our purpose."

"If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich"

"If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him."

"The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie, deliberate, contrived and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, persuasive and unrealistic".

"Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other."

"Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate."

"We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people."

"You never know what's hit you. A gunshot is the perfect way.z"

3. Only 32 years to go
before we find out what's in those sealed archives. Anybody want to speculate on what those sealed documents say?
(I wont be around unless I live to be 99!)

5. There might be a paragraph like this....
..."Then Vice President Johnson said, almost in a whisper, ''What assholes, what chicken-shits have I brought up in my court, who care nothing for their allegiance to their country. Who will rid me of this meddlesome Kennedy.' ? Well.. he didn't actually -order- us to do anything, but we understood his meaning."

4. I remember about a
decade ago, one of my sisters saying that she didn't understand what it was about JFK that people seemed obsessed about. I played some film of him, where he is just interacting with a couple journalists, in a rather casual manner. I watched her watch him. After a few minutes, she said that now she understood. The man had a power .... not just as an individual, and certainly not just as a symbol. But he had accessed a great force that only a very few leaders in our nation's history have.

10. That's absolutely true.
He was magnetic. I was young but I remember looking FORWARD to his press conferences & I still thank God that he was president during the Cuban Missle Crisis.

I saw him in person only once and the force that you describe was incredible, far greater than even tv brought out.

9. The exact same day, yes.
You can imagine how Huxley's death went pretty much un-noticed at the time.
