Pelosi Announces Opening Session of 110th Congress

Washington, D.C. – Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi announced today that the House of Representatives will open the first session of the 110th Congress on January 4, 2007 and will remain in session for several weeks in January to take up crucial legislation that will address the urgent priorities of the American people.

“From economic security to national security, the American people have resoundingly called for a New Direction. It is imperative that we waste no time in addressing the pressing needs facing our nation,” Pelosi said. “In the first 100 legislative hours, Democrats will get to work immediately to restore civility, integrity, and fiscal responsibility to the House, while increasing prosperity, opportunity, and security for all Americans.”

Included in House Democrats’ first 100 legislative hours are:

* Draining the swamp – break the link between lobbyists and legislation and commit to pay-as-you-go budgeting, no new deficit spending * Making America more secure – implement the independent 9/11 Commission recommendations * Giving Americans a raise – increase the minimum wage * Making college more affordable – cut the interest rate in half on federally subsidized student loans * Making health care more affordable – negotiate for lower prescription drug prices * Ending subsidies for Big Oil * Giving hope to families with devastating diseases – allow stem cell research

A feel good agenda. Nothing of which addresses our real problems.

1. I die laughing every time they mention TAXES
With what their fuhrer has done to the budget, Dems raising taxes should be the last thing they worry about.

3. So unbelievably true!
It's always crazy to me how these people will gripe about having 25 cents of their tax bill go to the National Endowment for the Arts, but when billions of dollars of federal cash get lost in Iraq, or billions of dollars are lost through war profiteering, they just shrug and say, "Whoops! Oh well."

2. Anyway she's calling the Republicans bluff
Republicans are purposefully not finishing their work this term so that Pelosi has to burn up time working on the normal Congressional business before turning to any Democratic agenda. This just ensures that they have enough to accomplish both.

What a joke FR is.

* Draining the swamp – break the link between lobbyists and legislation and commit to pay-as-you-go budgeting, no new deficit spending

Real problems? Lobbying and legislation? Check. Let your children pay instead of Pay as you Go? Real problem.

* Making America more secure – implement the independent 9/11 Commission recommendations

Real problem? Terror dominate the news for 5+ years? Check

* Giving Americans a raise – increase the minimum wage

Real problem? Minimum wage not enough to support yourself let alone a family? Check

* Making college more affordable – cut the interest rate in half on federally subsidized student loans

Real problem? College tuition cost sky rocketing? check

* Making health care more affordable – negotiate for lower prescription drug prices

Real problem? Non-competitive drug prices inflating the market? check

* Ending subsidies for Big Oil

Real problems? Big oil showing record profits quarter after quarter yet still heavily subsidized? check

* Giving hope to families with devastating diseases – allow stem cell research

Real problems? Technology there to discover cures to debilitating and fatal disease yet restricted due to folk who believe that man lived side by side with dinosaurs? check

5. They want important issues tended to like
- rounding up all the gays
- protecting all the stem cells (although those ignorant motherfuckers don't know what a stem cell is, except limbaugh makes fun of anyone wanting to advance science with them
- ensuring the privacy of pedophile republican members of congress
- killing lots of "ragheads" somewhere on the planet (ensuring someone else does the killing.

These are obviously people with priorities.

12. And I forgot a very important issue for them
Immigration. Send every immigrant home. Then they will have different issues:

- What do you mean no salad? All the crops are rotting in the field because no one picked them? How the hell did that happen, must be them damn democrats.
- And how come this motel room isn't made up. This is an outrage; I'm gonna call my congressman.

Yeah, they are on the cutting edge of societal evolution alright.

From all the flag burning going on here! After that's taken care of, then we'll address these lesser problems!

6. How many Freepers do you think are in a tax bracket where they benefited
Edited on Wed Nov-22-06 09:32 AM by Jon8503
from Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy. Their harping about taxes shows how stupid they are because what Pelosi and the dems are proposing in taxes will benefit them a hell of a lot more than they got under Bush. However, they will still probably bitch even though as in the case of a lot of the larger cities, there basically have been hidden tax increases for the average citizen such as increase in subway taxes among others.
