My Dad always called him "Cousin Jack".
When I was a kid, I was convinced he was a cousin and told everyone about it. Later, I figured that my Dad had been using a nick name, referring to JFK that way because both families were Irish. Recently, I asked my Dad about it. It turns out that there is some sort of connection and that Joe Kennedy had stopped by to visit some of the relatives in Pennsylvania back in the 50's.

It's just a little vignette of how the Irish emerged from time to time even though the Kennedys worked so hard to assimilate.

3. I used to see Teddy Kennedy and the whole clan
(including Rose Kennedy when she was up to it) in the pubs around Hyannis. I never saw him disgustingly, pee-on-himself drunk, unlike a certain other politician I can name. He generally volunteered to be "Margaret" during salty renditions of "The Seven Old Ladies" and a good time was had by all at his expense, something he seemed to enjoy thoroughly.

I'd say they've assimilated very nicely, but like all Irish liberals, they remember who they are and where they came from.

5. the key with any family is to remember whre they came from..
I have relatives that forgot the fact that their fathers and grandfathers were miners and steelworkers who were paid less than nothing...now they look down upon those people who are blue collar and have a great disdain for unions....it makes my blood boil.

Edited on Wed Nov-22-06 11:09 AM by CountAllVotes
and he died on Nov. 23rd which is tomorrow and he was a fine Irishman and a fearless man. God knows how much I miss him.

It makes me sad as hell but I'm sure if he could have arranged to have died on the 22nd he would have done just that in memory of "Jack" as he called him.
