Poppy Stunned When Told By Crowd That: "We Do Not Respect Your Son"
President Bush's father was forced into an emotional defense of his son yesterday in the Persian Gulf when an Arab audience launched a blistering surprise attack on his first-born.

"We do honor Americans, and I believe that they are highly respected in our country. However, we do not respect your son, and we do not respect what you are doing all over the world," college student Nevine Al Rumeisi told the former President at a leadership conference in the United Arab Emirates.

Her comment was roundly cheered by the business and political leaders gathered in once pro-American Abu Dhabi.

The elder Bush just looked stunned.

4. Do you get the sense of "Falling Down"?
In that movie, Michael Douglas plays an employee of a defense department contractor. All his life, he's played by what he thought were the rules, and his life has just gone to pot. Douglas gets caught in a traffic jam on an L.A. freeway on a hot summer's day, and he just sort of loses it. He abandons his car on an on-ramp and starts walking across the city. As his story unfolds, you find out that everything has just gone to hell for him. At the end of the trail, the end of the day, he's confronted by Robert Duvall, playing the standard-issue cop who's about to retire, who draws down on Douglas. By this time, Douglas is completely bewildered by everything that's happened, and how has it all come to this: Looking down the barrel of a cop's gun and wondering "How did I get to be the bad guy?"

Poppy kind of reminds me of that sick, pathetic character, who's only now starting to wonder "How did I get to be the bad guy?"

33. No argument, this is one font of evil in the world
But I think that Poppy has always been convinced that he's on the side of the angels, and that his entire career has been one unending build-up of his resume for the forces of truth, justice and the American way. I think it truly shocks him that there are people (not his political foes, but ordinary people) who see his life and his work as one long obscenity of oppression.

am in the weird position of feeling sorry for Bush I, and it seemed to fit better as a reply to you.

This makes me sad. He deserves it, I guess, but I cannot imagine, being the father to those two revolting monsters.......it's just sad. I'm not real fond of ANY Bushes period, but this....moves my loathing into, pity....

Can you imagine BEING them, any of them? Surely somewhere deep inside they're trapped and horrified to be what they are. At least, I hope so. And not in a sadistic way. In some kind of way that hopes that there's a real soul in there that feels, just as you said. "How did I get to be the bad guy?"

EDIT: Because if there's not, not to be all Star Trek about it, then I'm afraid there's no farking hope for humanity......

107. Not two, three

I see THREE revolting monsters!

You gotcher Jeb, you gotcher Neil, and of course, everyone's favorite, George jr. Slimebags, every one of them, and if Bush The Elder couldn't find a way to raise even one out of three to be a non-slimebag, then there's something wrong with his parenting.

I can't imagine being them. For starters, I can't even begin to imagine being that rich. I can't imagine being so connected. I can't imagine being on the inside of the major deals that affect foreign and economic policies of the USA, behind the scenes. I can't imagine being the head of the CIA, or the deserter who became president, or the Castro-hating governor of Florida, or the son who got his parents to manipulate the Katrina victims' education relief fund so it required purchases of his company's software. I can't imagine being a mother, let alone the vicious bitch of a mother who raised those nasty amoral kids.

No can do. Being a father myself, I can imagine feeling some shame if my son were to become one of the mosted hated men alive -- but that would be because of remorse for the damage done to the planet and its inhabitants, due at least partly to my poor parenting. That idea just doesn't occur to Poppy. Hell, he's still struggling to come to grips that the notion that his namesake is hated at all.

"It's gotta be the help," he thinks. "Here son, have some of my advisors."

Pity is wasted on the Bushes.

77. That was a pretty good movie
but the ending was a little weak. I felt like it didn't emphasize enough that Michael Douglas' character was a bad guy throughout the movie. It was kind of like a Charles Bronson movie except for the ending where the "hero" turns out to be the bad guy.

5. I don't even know where to begin.
Just about every word out of his mouth was the wrong one. This statement almost sounds like a threat:

"It takes a lot of guts to tell a father what you said about his son when I just told you that the thing that matters to my heart is my family"

It takes a lot of guts? Is he going to send Homeland Security after that person for saying something negative about Junior?

75. Right
When I first saw the article I thought I couldn't believe it. After a few "Duhs". I thought the same as you. I think he figured Jeb would run for president and their family dynasty, albeit a corrupt one, would go on forever. The scanner incident was one of many that showed he had no clue of what America was really like. Babs is so out of touch with the real world, I have always suspected she came from beyond Pluto.

I think we can all agree that family is important and I agree that my family is the most important thing to me. However, I sure hope I have done a better job of installing values, morals, empathy and kindness better than Poppy. You can say and write anything you want. Actions speak volumes and if your words are hallow, don't be surprised when they come back and bite you in the butt.

find his words incredible.

People are waking up every day and the world has found it doesn't have to be meekly quiet in ratio to the crimes of imperialism perpetrated by those for whom little George is a front.

This is a Carlyle, Halliburton, Echelon world takeover consortium with many Boeings, GEs, Northrups, Bechtels. Exxons also profiting and controlling. He is the number one spokesperson for Carlyle - they are trying to buy off and take over the entire planet and he is stunned at the outspoken criticism of his son as President.

He is a master of lies from not knowing where he was on Nov 22, 1963 to not knowing about the Iran-Contra secret, sub-government that he presided over?

//But we should still lock him up for his Criminal Christmas Pardons in '92.//

of reality than the masses. To Bush the pardons weren't criminal, they were business.

Sadly this mindset isn't limited to Bushco, it's the mindset of elites throughout the ages. They ultimately believe these things are necessary for the greater good, just like the mafia believes it's doing things for the greater good of it's neighborhoods by providing order.

The masses are allowed to exist in return for the order that the privileged provide, the fee that the elites charge are that they are allowed to go about their crimes and rackets unchecked. It's how things are done, it's how they've always been done. What's new in this equation is the incredible networking that the internet provides, the worldwide hive has now started to realize it has been kicked and how it's been kicked.

When another audience member said he thought American wars are designed to open markets for U.S. companies - drawing more cheers and whoops - Bush grew testy.

46. "My son is an honest man."
GW Bush- High Crimes and Misdemeanors.

1. "A Crime Against Peace." Initiating a war of aggression against a nation that posed no immediate threat to the U.S.--a war that has needlessly killed 2550 Americans and maimed and damaged over 20,000 more, while killing over 100,000 innocent Iraqi men, women and children, is the number one war crime according to the Nuremberg Charter, a document which was largely drawn up by American lawyers after World War II.

2. Lying and organizing a conspiracy to trick the American people and the U.S. Congress into approving an unnecessary and illegal war. This is defined as "A Conspiracy to Commit a Crime Against Peace" in the Nuremberg Charter, to which the U.S. is a signatory.

3. Approving and encouraging, in violation of U.S. and international law, the use of torture, kidnapping and rendering of prisoners of war captured in Iraq and Afghanistan and in the course of the so-called War on Terror. Note that the Hamdan decision actually declares Bush to have violated the Third Geneva Convention on Treatment of Prisoners of War, which means the justices are in effect calling the president a war criminal. Under U.S. and international law, if prisoners have died because of such a violation--and many have died in illegal US captivity because of torture authorized by this president--the penalty is death (a point made to the president in a warning memo written by his then White House counsel Alberto Gonzales, the text of which is published in full in the appendix of our book).

4. Illegally stripping the right of citizenship and the protections of the Constitution from American citizens, denying them the fundamental right to have their cases heard in a court, to hear the charges against them, to be judged in a public court by a jury of their peers, and to have access to a lawyer.

5. Authorizing the spying on American citizens and their communications by the National Security Agency and other U.S. police and intelligence agencies, in violation of the First and Fourth Amendments and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

6. Obstructing investigation into and covering up knowledge of the deliberate exposing of the identity of a U.S. CIA undercover operative, and possibly conspiring in that initial outing itself.

7. Obstructing the investigation into the 9-11 attacks and lying to investigators from the Congress and the bi-partisan 9-11 Commission--actions that come perilously close to treason. (Former Florida Senator Bob Graham, who headed the Senate Intelligence Committee until his retirement at the end of 2002, has called this the president's most impeachable crime.)

8. Violating the due process and other constitutional rights of thousands of citizens and legal residents by rounding them up and disappearing or deporting them without hearings.

9. Abuse of power, undermining of the Constitution and violating the presidential oath of office by deliberately refusing to administer over 750 acts duly passed into law by the Congress--actions with if left unchallenged would make the Congress a vestigial body, and the president a dictator.

10. Criminal negligence in failing to provide American troops with adequate armor before sending them into a war of choice, criminal negligence in going to war against a weak, third-world nation without any planning for post war occupation and reconstruction, criminal negligence in failing to respond to a known and growing crisis in the storm-blasted city of New Orleans, and criminal negligence in failing to act, and in fact in actively obstructing efforts by other countries and American state governments, to deal with the looming crisis of global warming.

“Secondly, there are such things as roving wiretaps. Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires -- a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we're talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so. It's important for our fellow citizens to understand, when you think Patriot Act, constitutional guarantees are in place when it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our homeland, because we value the Constitution.” GW Bush April 2004

Did he expect to ward off any criticism by telling them that his son - family is all that matters to his "heart"?

"It takes a lot of guts to tell a father what you said about his son when I just told you that the thing that matters to my heart is my family"

Well, GWH - our country, which has been thoroughly disgraced by your son, and peace in the world matter much much more to our "hearts" than what matters to your "heart."

I hate it when the press reports criticism of Bush in other countries and then labels it as anti-American or says the country used to be pro-American until its citizens became anti-Bush. I've complained to WaPo about this in the past and they've changed the online versions of articles in response. This conflation of Bush with America is something we have to watch out for.

The whole world IS watching the Bush's and the whole world isn't wrong!

An 82 year old former president must make the rounds to patch up the world's feelings about his most unpopular son, at his age he should caution not to get a heart attack in the process.

95. I love the way they shift the topic to "family" when these world leaders are questioned.
I don't think the "family" bond between the father and son is at issue; but when it is used, as the Bushes do, to smokescreen the obvious failings of these two world leaders, then they get testy.
Screw them.
If you can't take the heat, stay out of the political fire.
The truth probably is that the Bushes have used their positions of power to aid their pals in the oil business and the manufacturing of war weapons, and of course, Haliburton and related firms that profit off of war, don'tcha think?
THAT SAID, it only stands to reason that the two felt compelled to take the U.S. into wars.
The cold war being over, there has to be some way to help their friends.

What do they take us for? Total idiots?

With the sanctions, depleted uranium (that we were not told about---affecting our troops and their offspring too.)all the victims in South America, and so on...this man is the axis of evil. Never mind his stint in the CIA and when he was VP, that part is probably the most hideous.

Junior, you can almost understand--they play him like a fiddle. He was picked by George Schultz, Condi and others, wasn't he?

Everyone should take another look at Poppy (the pedophile). He and evil Babs raised their boys, Poppy was rumored to be jealous of the Kennedys, and accused of "instilling" his sons. Plus the family ties to the Nazis.

It doesn't speak well to your parenting abilities if your children grow up to become liars and scum. (And worse yet if you actually defend and encourage that sort of thing!) I doubt that Poppy or Babs did much diaper changing and feeding...I'm sure they had nannies to do all that stuff. The idea of nurturing came later, it seems - like how to work that thing called "corporate greed" for one's own good. You know, finessing profit margins, seeking out tax loopholes, boosting your bottom line through any means necessary, that sort of thing.

What they don't seem to learn is the world is a little more well-versed than they think, we know crooked people when we see them! Even in "once pro-American" Abu Dhabi!
