Gas price LTTE...
This is an LTTE in today's Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The guy is one of those professional rightwingnut letter writers who gets published all the time.

I think he's losing it. His arguement seems to defeat itself. Gas prices went down before the election and are going up after.... aren't they?

Our conservative frenzy

Before the election, the Democrats were claiming that falling gasoline prices were the result of oil companies trying to boost Republican chances at the polls, and that once the election was over, if the GOP were still in power, those prices would rise again because the oil companies would know their Republican "buddies" in Congress would not protest.

Unfortunately for those partisan hacks who subscribe to this asinine theory, the Democrats won complete control of Congress, but prices are still going back up.

Perhaps all those "progressives" out there who were falling all over themselves to blame high gas prices on the Republicans can explain that one ...

Could it be, just possibly, that gas prices are not controlled by the Republican Party?? Gasp! What a concept!!

1. perhaps not by the Republican 'Party', but certainly by a group of
Republican 'businessmen'.

The difference there is only semantic. They are, in essence, the same.

2. Prices are going back up because there is no longer an incentive to hold them down. What do they
win by keeping the price low(er)? Before Nov. 7, they had the incentive to help out their buddies. Now they lost that incentive, so the prices go back up. That is until someone starts investigating their thieving asses.

3. Tell Winston Rockwell no thinking liberal would assert the GOP controls the oil
However, you will find many who would assert the entire time gas prices were controlled by oil companies, who just happen to favor Republicans more than Democrats.

4. a.) Prices started rising (here anyway) on Nov. 8th.
b.) The Democrats are not in power yet.

I know it hard for these knee-jerk assholes to follow a simple progression of events, but I though this was simple enough to be within their capabilities. Silly me.:silly:

5. There is, apparently, statistical data to back up the assertion that someone...
in a position of power over gas prices manipulated the price during the last few elections. I read an article about this - I'm sure it could be found in the commondreams.org archives - that blamed Prince Bandar Bush, if I recall correctly.
