3. heck of a day to make a statement
Edited on Wed Nov-22-06 01:55 PM by ProdigalJunkMail
guess pissing off their customers (you know, the people who pay their salary) on a critical travel day is the best way to make that statement. And the worst part is, this is screwing with non-travelers rather than business people who could best cope with this sort of stoppage. I cannot fathom why baggage folks would do this today of all days...

4. WHAT, are they ITALIAN or something?
That's a classic Italian technique--really screw people over by engaging in a 'sciopero' on a day when people NEED to get somewhere.

However, to be fair to the Italians, they don't go out for days at a time. They go out for HOURS, and they generally have the decency to TELL you ahead of time, so you can kind of plan to be inconvenienced. It's in the paper, so if you read the news, you are forewarned.

Thus, if you happen to be on the train when the trainworkers' sciopero starts, the thing just grinds to a halt on the tracks and your ass sits there until the time is over. The train workers get out, have a picnic, shoot the shit, and then, when it's 'time' they go back to work. All very civilized!!!

NWA Baggage Handlers Temporarily Stop Working
(AP) Minneapolis Baggage handlers for Northwest Airlines Corp. stopped working briefly at the airline's Minneapolis hub on Wednesday in a dispute over who will clean airplanes.

Northwest spokesman Kurt Ebenhoch said that what took place was a union rally. "It has not had an impact on our operations. There is no strike taking place at any Northwest Airlines location," he said.

The stoppage began around noon CST and lasted about a half-hour in Minneapolis, said airport spokesman Patrick Hogan. The stoppage took place during a time when few planes were taking off or landing, and no noticeable disruption to airline traffic was caused, Hogan said.
