We are sending 57,000 soldiers to Iraq now. |
|
As follows:
The units scheduled for deployment are the 3rd Infantry Division headquarters from Fort Stewart in Georgia; the 4th Brigade, 1st Infantry Division from Fort Riley in Kansas; the 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division from Fort Lewis in Washington; the 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division from Fort Benning in Georgia; the 1st Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division from Fort Bragg in North Carolina; and the 173rd Airborne Brigade, based in Vicenza, Italy.
By my calculations, thats 114,000 more parents not having such a great Thansgiving.
I hope you do,
Joe

9. I guess it really depends on how we define opposition |
|
Lots of people say they oppose the war, but opposition requires much more than words.
I hope these folks come home safe :(

22. Now THAT would be fantastic! |
|
That would just about do it, wouldn't it?
I would love to see that much resistance from within the military.

13. I wondered about that - those are just army units. |
|
I don't have a clue about the marine deployments - I didn't look.
Good point!!

5. Let's have a draft so it can be 400,000! |
|
Isn't that a great idea? Then it will be a representational slice of the subset of the population that cannot weasel out of it who will be put in harm's way for this idiocy. Wouldn't that be great? Our republic will be much better then.
F'ing hell.
On a more serious note, those 57,000 are not all additional troops, many are rotating in for those who are lucky enough to be rotating out. It is unclear how many additional troops the criminal cabal is about to put on the ground, now that the people have clearly voted to pull them all out. The number I have seen is 20,000 additional.

8. Sort of hinges on who you believe, right?? |
|
We are sending 57K+ in (there are NG units not counted) and then we see who they let go home.
We see just who gets stop lossed here.
They only thing for sure is that 57K plus group is going. More than that is conjecture.

Now everyone and his brother is one record opposing even the idea of a draft.

7. Divisions are about 15,000 strong, Brigades are about 3,000 |
|
Elements of the 3rd division are already deployed to Iraq, so I think just Headquarters, 3rd division is now being deployed. Maybe 3,000 strong (guess)?
Five Brigades plus an unknown number from Headquarters, 3rd division sounds closer to 20,000 than 57,000. I hope I'm right.

Divisions have typically 23 to 27K people. They are not the "square" units they used to be. They vary.
Brigades are about 6,000.
These are mixed unit deployments. It is 57,000 going - unfortunately. We find out later if they really send others back - maybe a lot later.

15. If it makes you feel better, |
|
I still think in 19th century terms. They still counted in regiments then. A battallion just half a regiment, three regiments in a brigade (all at full strength 1200/regiment), three bigades in a division, three divisions in a corp, etc...
Anyway, sure is a lot of noses.

so this is what you knew, but could not say? It must have been near impossible, these last couple weeks, to stomach all those lying liars and their arrogant lies ... knowing what you did. I've been waiting for this shoe to drop since you posted.
This reminds me very much of Viet Nam ... our young men and women being deployed, facing death, knowing there's no chance of victory.

And I have not seen it yet - but this does make sense to me because of it.
Hope you have a great Thanksgiving.
