1. The Kramer victims are probably still lawyering up...it will come soon.
I just saw Borat tonight, man was it hilarious. It seems like all of Borat's victims were freepers, which makes it even funnier.

3. Alan Keyes would be in for a double windfall.
Since he was racially insulted and mislead.

4. Because one has a cause of action and the other doesn't?
If the film-makers breached their contract with the people they filmed, they can be sued for that. I've looked for precedent for the target's of Richard's rant suing, and I've yet to find it. Those arguing that they do have a cause of action refuse to cite anything in support of their view.

5. Simple reason
Edited on Wed Nov-22-06 11:51 PM by Richard D
The people in the borat movie had their faces on screen when they were made fools of. The people in Kramer's audience while insulted, do not have to live with friends and the world seeing them being asses, as does Kramer, btw. He should really sue himself.

Also, Kramer isn't making megabucks off of the people he insulted. Cohen is.

12. So the rodeo guy who thinks we should hang all the homos should get script approval
and a share of the profits?

Twilight Zone, here we come.

6. Because there is a difference between being insulted and being exploited.
Although I don't think the Borat people should sue either unless they did not give their consent to be in the film. If calling people names was a punitive damage every kindergartner in the world would be suing each other. It's ludicrous to suggest he should have to pay damages.

9. Anyone can do it is part of the problem.
A loser pays system would eliminate a great deal of the bullshit and free up the court system in the process.

8. Borat's "victims" wouldn't have sued if the movie didn't hit #1
Deep pockets is all this is about. Who knew the movie would do so well? But after three weeks on the top of the charts, the lawyers started smelling green.

Same with Richards. People think he's a loser with no career, but remember, the Seinfeld cast was the highest paid cast in television, and they still get residuals from the seventy-leven reruns on every channel every night. Richards ain't hurtin. I'm sure those hecklers knew it when they decided their wittle feewings had been hurt.

10. Anyone can sue
People sue for all kinds of stuff. I can't see that the targets of Kramer's rant have much of a case but if they want to tie up the courts with this crap I guess they have the right.

13. Couples of things: 1. Anyone can sue, but not any case will win; 2. the BORAT
"victims" might be able to actually show damages. The hecklers may not.

14. Kramer can counter sue for them calling him
a "motherfuckin' cracker". They also disrupted his work and shouted that he wasn't funny. He can claim that hurt his feelings and caused him to have a psychotic breakdown.

15. As much as I'm disgusted by Kramer's racist outburst, the hecklers are
protected by the constitution/freedom of speech.

If people could sue, I think soldiers and gays would have a pretty good case against that hate-monger Fred Phelps and his phony church....you know?

:puke:
