Give Thanks!

From Today:

Iraq, U.S. election losses trail Bush to Europe

http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=topNews&storyid=2006-11-22T164238Z_01_N21406845_RTRUKOT_0_TEXT0.xml&src=112206_1152_DOUBLEFEATURE_iraq

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - When President George W. Bush visits Europe next week for the first time since crushing U.S. election losses, allies will find him hobbled by the defeat and chastened by the clamor for change in Iraq.

Foreign policy experts and analysts predict at least a glimmer of the humility in international affairs that Bush promised six years ago when he first won the White House but hardly a wholesale rollback of the hawkish policies that angered many European leaders.

"European allies expect a turn back toward the center and a kinder and gentler America," said Charles Kupchan, a scholar at the Council on Foreign Relations.

Rampant sectarian killings in Iraq and the daily carnage Americans have seen on their television screens in the weeks since has added to the sense of urgency for a new strategy.

For Europeans who strongly opposed the war, the U.S. elections brought vindication. Now, they wonder if Bush's post-election emphasis on bipartisanship and the ouster of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is mere window-dressing or a genuine shift away from a go-it-alone stance they reject.

6. Happy Thankschristmas and a Merry New Year!
The "Season" is actually a pretty nice time for many reasons. I give great thanks this time every year that I come from a small family and have few friends. Very few presents to buy! Very few credit cards to max out! Why, I've NEVER had to clock someone in the aisles to snag that last Cabbage Patch Doll / Tickle Me Elmo / Razor scooter / XBox 360.

Sure sure, all you people who grew up in the bosom of a large and loving family, with thousands of friends - most of the year you are the bees knees and I'm a lonely loser bowling alone. But at this magical time of the year, the scales are balanced, karma comes home to roost and the mighty have falllen. How sweet it is, how sweet it is!

We definitely have reason to celebrate this year. I'm thankful for my back-fence neighbor who no longer bothers to argue with me about GWB............... and my neighbor is military...........
and he voted for 2 local Dems this election!!

The best reason to be thankful? DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND! :bounce::bounce:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! :bounce::bounce:

Can somebody please remind me how to center text?

:loveya::grouphug::loveya:

On the "bring them home" note - our 172nd Stryker Brigade, which has taken so many losses in both their first and second deployment (homecoming delayed 4 months by Rummy, the asshole) IS COMING HOME BY DECEMBER 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9. Hey, northofdenali!
Wish I could have snow this Christmas like are sure to have. Right now we've been having a tropical storm over North Carolina. REALLY WEIRD. It's almost freezing, but we've had trop storm rain and winds.

I can't remember the html for centering. I usually just add a bunch of & n b s p ; 's (without the spaces inbetween, of course).

19. We're having a heat wave, ourselves !
It was 24 below yesterday, supposed to go to 35 below last night, with a high of 20 below today.

Woke up this AM - it was only 7 below!!

My mom, in Central Florida, is freezing. Temp was like 36 this AM, got all the way to 51 or somewhere near there........... Jeez, I feel so BAD for 'em (NOT).

Seriously, though I wouldn't trade places for anywhere else. I could use a trip to the hot springs, though (all of 52 miles from home).

Hope yours is wonderful!! I got most of my prep & cooking out of the way Wednesday (it's still Wednesday here, 10:42 PM) so Turkey Day will be a breeze.

My new (Oct. 28th) grandson, William David Evans Jr., will also grace us with his presence. Grandma takes OVER!!

:loveya: Hissy - let the world go for a day, and just enjoy!

31. Remember how fast DU picked up on the binoc error?
Our local brigade was trained quite well for Iraq:

Here. Snow, cold, long johns, bunny boots.........

There. No decent weapons. No working equipment. No reason to be there.

I am so thankful they are finally coming back. Most are not from "here" but they are definitely FROM here, now till forever.

Let's all kick back for the day and appreciate what we have, not what we want to have. :loveya: DU

I could hardly get it done with her bouncing around.

If she's this excited about Thanksgiving, I can just imagine how she's gonna be at Christmas!

I will definitely tell her that the turkey meat I'm giving her is from you!

29. My babies haven't seen a turkey in 3 years.
The oven that was here was funky so I wouldn't use it. I got a new one earlier this fall. My babies haven't seen the bird yet. I can't wait until in the morning when I start washing it and preparing it to cook. They are going to be so happy. They are already way more playful than usual since I have been home from school today. They love it when I get to stay home from school during the week.

Give her a hug for me, will ya? I love to hear that a kitty is loved and fed.

Just because I'm a professor doesn't mean I don't. I slept all day today.

Marla loves hugs and I will definitely give her one for you. She is a pure-bred sealpoint Balinese "Ragdoll." It is just amazing that I found her on the side of the road. She has a brown face, but two stipes of white coming out under her nose, so it looks like she has a handlebar moustache!

34. I loved getting to sleep in today. I rolled
over on the couch where I fell asleep last night and just cuddled my oldest cat, Sunday Girl. It was all nice and warm and cozy.

I have been reading a book too. Talk about cozy. I don't get to enjoy my reading like I once did. I used to read at least 4 or 5 books every fall and winter. I had time then. School and typical home chores seem to take all my time and keep me from reading books. I have had the book I am reading now for about 4 years now. I just started reading it last weekend. I knew I might actually have time to get into it and finish it this week. If I hadn't had the time off, I could never have enjoyed the book like I can now.
