1. Totally agree with you. I can't imagine on which legal grounds they
could prevail.

I think the only damages they're entitled to are refunds for the "comedy" act they walked out on (if in fact they haven't gotten their money back.)

As terrible as it can be, the last time I checked, hate speak is still covered under freedom of speech.

I personally loathe what Fred Phelps says about gay people and dead American soldiers, but I defend his right to say those awful, vile things.

As sick as it makes me.

8. Richard's verbal assault
Edited on Fri Nov-24-06 09:23 AM by Karenina
was NOT directed at the hecklers. He screamed at THE WRONG GUYS... See Sapphire Blue's thread.

And if some legal basis can be found for recourse, I'm all for it. Something creative, like working with low-income kids.

(Hate radio has poisoned America...)

3. If people could
be sued for being racist assholes it would probably wipe out 90% of AM talk radio.

4. You do not have the right to not be offended in this country.
Unfortunately, that comes with the 1st amendment. Michael Richards might have been incredibly stupid saying that crap, but it is his right to say it. The same way it is Fred Phelps' right to protest soldier's funerals, despite all the unconstitional laws several states have passed, but that is what the ACLU is for. Also David Duke has the right to deny the holocaust. If we are gonna have freedom of speech in this country, we have to deal with a few nutcases, and not sue them everytime we are offended.

6. phelps has the right to protest soldier's funnerals, but not the right
to attend those funnerals if they are private

In addition, free speach does not include yelling fire in a theater if there isn't a fire

9. Maybe you haven't been paying attention the last six years but rights are a thing of the past
Free Speech Zones, No warrants needed, no Habeas Corpus, No right to trial or lawyer or to confront accuser etc.etc. No knock Policy....too late to be hollering about rights....
