Squabble Squabble
Thanks to DU, to Skinner, EarlG and Elad

Thanks to all the Mods, past, present and future

Thanks to 96K+ registered DUers

Thanks to lurkers

Thanks to AAR and Mike Malloy and Thom Hartmann and Randi Rhodes and Keith Olbermann and the Future Mrs. Keith Olbermann (Stephanie! Miller!) and all other national favorites and local talent on progressive radio and cable

Thanks to The Lounge (for what I don't know............. :hi: )

Thanks to all DU posters who value their right to respect over their right to annoy

Thanks to DU voices that may feel on one "side" or the other AND are willing to talk to the other "side"

Thanks to those who don't take sides.

Thanks to DUers who see this as a constructive place to learn something, not just a convenient place to vent

Thanks to all the women and men in uniform and their families who have served this unecessary war.

Thanks to the Baby Boomers who lived through the Reaganist Nightmare, circa 1980-present, kicking and screaming

Thanks to the post-Boom kids who will finally realize that opting out is really not an option (even if it SEEMS like "rebelling") and will finally stand up and claim a TITLE! not a LETTER! for their own Generation!!

Thanks to the Democrats for showing backbone and to the voters for coming out to prevent Republican vote theft.

Thanks to the Republicans for revealing what slimebags they are and to Limbot the Hut for finally imploding.

Thanks to all the various flavors of humanity that have spread out all over this globe, including the religiously-disenfranshised and now politically-incorrect Puritans who landed the Mayflower on Plymouth; thanks to the indigenous peoples of this land that allowed them to do it.

Thanks to the future generations, that out of a desire to survive, will discover sustainability and thankfully realize, that humanity is one race.

One planet.

Thanks.

10. Peace!! Oh and thanks to Sean Penn & Cindy Sheehan for being Real Human Beings
I got to meet and talk with them this year. They're the real deal and it's sad how Repukes can't handle that.

Although Sean Penn's shirt was WHITER than it seems possible for anything to be. Odd.

14. link to brilliant post in Plaid Adders "Learning to Hope: TG 2006" thread
HS is a friend and I trust will not mind that I linked this. This gem of a post speaks of The Way Things Work that is relevant to Hope, to open-mindedness, to politics........ to the things I've learned from the recent DU generation wars (an opportunity to ask questions I've asked often and promised to quit before, an opportunity to finally accept the non-answers........... maybe).

If blocks of younger people-- or at any age-- quit participating or voting because the game is rigged;
if "strategery" based on rigid cynical assumptions outwieghs realistic flexible strategy in political matters;
it those jaded attitudes infect discussions on DU;
if folks with those attitudes of negative affirmation think it's always someone ELSE that's the problem or is at fault........

None of that can happen if people understand what Hidden Stillness reveals here:

Hidden Stillness
20. 2006--A Wonderful Year After All

<snip>

It helps to make yourself feel better by thinking of several things about life. First, that the future that you will live in is not perceptable "up ahead," from the known facts, but always seems to come at you from the side, where you never expected, and didn't see it coming. The future that actually develops is always a surprise, always takes a turn you didn't predict, and is not necessarily made up of the elements that you were already aware of before. You can get very depressed if you only think of the situations you were aware of, and wonder, "How can any good change come out of all this mess?" Realize, that there was a world of reality that we cannot be aware of, going on underneath, and that often was the real make-up of the new change. It is not as bad as it seems, and the solution is actually forming, unreachable.

19. A Little Late, But....
Hi, omega minimo; thank you for the praise and cross-post of part of my message from the other thread. I don't really do anything to publicize my posts, don't start a lot of threads, etc., and so it was nice. You are free to do whatever you want with my posts, just don't step on my blue suede shoes. One thing I am grateful for is that, sometimes, if you go to the effort to explain yourself, you really can change people's minds because they will think, and, sometimes, if someone bothers to explain, rather than accuse, you can learn and change your mind. There isn't so much of a threat hanging over us as before--when the whole group rebels, there is nothing for the Republican oppressor to do, no matter what they might want to. A Wish for the New Year and the New Congress: Give the great hero Bunnatine Greenhouse her old job back, then give her a raise and a promotion, then give her a wrongful-firing court judgment, then give her a medal and a ceremony.

Oppressive shadow brought its threat
While putting us all in deepest debt;
We no longer fear their clout
For we ourselves have thrown them out.
