1. Oh he was the best...
of course that was in an alternate universe. Back here in reality he wasn't as great as people make him out to be.

2. Of course he's great!
There's been billions of dollars spent over the last 20 years to make him great. Now you don't like to waste money, do you? So put those people's money to good use and join their alternate reality! :D

6. I still have my bumper sticker
stating, "reagan is a liar" and I dutifully trot it out whenever they start jibber jabbbering about adding his face to Mt. Rushmore or some coin....

Guy was an f'g loser with a masochistic wife who made sure he changed his tightie whities everyday.....but ONLY if the astrologer told her she could.

Still ticks me off we had to sit thru an entire week of him getting his ass buried.....shoulda just dumped him off the cliff out there by the ranch with a 21 bb gun salute.

10. His raid on the disabled
was so outrageous that I hated him. People died because he was such a pig. People got knocked off the rolls because he didn't know what the hell he was talking about. People got put back on but some of them died in the meantime. Cancer victims, people unable to cope with mental illness killed themselves. I am glad he died and it is too bad he didn't suffer more.

unlike our current abject failure of a human being, George Bush. Compared to Bush, Reagan looks positively brilliant and he was a demented, doddering, old, washed up "B" movie actor. That doesn't say a whole lot about Bush now, does it? :)

that occurred on October 23, 1983. Two days later, Raygun saved the Western Hemisphere (to hear the right-wingers tell it) by invading Grenada and in the process "rescued" several American medical students before they had a chance to finish their studies.

15. He was very good at looking sincere.
He could look sincere even when he didn't know - or care - what the hell the speech he was giving meant.

He was a disaster of a president. He was one of the ultimate causes of Iran-Contra, and therefore he gave aid and comfort to our enemies. Under our Constitution, that makes him a traitor. I shed no tears when he wasted away and died; I was just sad it hadn't happened while he was in prison.

19. This is a standard MSM meme from pre-internet days
They used to be able to control public opinion. So everybody was brainwashed with:

Carter was a good man but that makes for a weak president.
Reagan was tough and therefore effective.

When it was really:

Carter told the truth and we didn't like it, so
We elected Reagan who would tell us what we want to hear.

We are still paying for dodging reality so industriously.

34. The Reagan Myth - Bullshit! Bullshit! Bullshit!
Edited on Thu Nov-23-06 04:05 PM by LaPera
ALL Republicans & the media try to force the lie down America's throat... that it was simply Reagan who single-handily brought down the USSR...(Because Reagan has no other legacy for the sheep to hang on to).

It's insulting, to every other American president before Reagan, (and after)...Truman, Ike, JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Ford & Carter (and Bush Sr., as well)...ALL, increased military spending, (each year during their respective terms)...Carter for instance, increased military spending no less than 5% in each of his four years...as had all the other's increased spending...

In so much, the "Military Industrial Complex", I'm not defending here...

The Soviet Union could not keep pace with our military spending and Gorbachev knew it would be suicidal for his country to continue trying to keep up the madness & pace, with the US...

Not to mention the FACT that Reagan was long gone, out of office, when the Soviet Union actually threw in the towel in 1991, during Bush Sr. presidency... http://www.cia.gov/csi/books/19335/art-1.html

All Reagan has to show for his presidency is union busting, environmentally he was a disaster, corporate deregulation, destruction of equal time via the FCC, huge deficits, Grenada, (to change the story, after 230 US Marines were blown up by terrorist), Iran-Contra, the mentally disable thrown out into the streets, etc. etc...And the republicans are successfully distorting the facts.

Reagan, started this fascist corporate take over of America and so many voted for this republican liar and blindly & carelessly went along with the greed and selfishness...

It irks me to no end, how democrats, liberals, refuse to recall, nor speak the truth, the way the facts really are!

The republicans have to have someone to point to that's bigger that life...So they point to the old lying, senile "Gipper" as their hero, because he started deregulation and corporate fascism, and every single thing he did from breaking up the working man's unions to his lies and death's in Lebanon trying to pretend to be tough, to the background boys in his administration stupid made-up weekend war in Grenada to change the Lebanon story...Reagan was a complete phony. He was just a spokesman for the powers behind the scene (that are STILL there)that kill off Kennedy and his great liberal idea's & planned agenda the same assholes who gave us Nixon, Iran-Contra & Iraq & their new phony cowboy spokesman Monkeyboy Bush...

The republicans needed some symbol and chose another pretend phony cowboy puppet...Ronald Reagan, shoving him down our throats....

The facts the republicans always fail to mention are Reagan's gave us the largest tax increase on the poor & middle class in the history of this country, nor do they mention Reagan gave us the huge record deficits and the biggest government in our history as well.

I guess they figure if they repeat the lie enough times and change history books, they believe will be the truth!

Reagan was one of the worst in a long line of Republican greedy lying assholes!

He was not a great president, he just played one on TV.

Typical of our modern society, all flash and no substance.

He was everyones kindly grand father, the "Aw Shucks" guy who carved the Thanksgiving turkey, and read us children "Twas the Night Before Christmas", but who was in reality just a tool used by the rich to increase their wealth.

and tax policies that were continued by Bush I and Bush II resulting in an almost seven-fold increase in the national debt in only a quarter of a century. As a result, the US might have to declare bankruptcy down the road and will most assuredly renege on its obligations, a la social security and Medicare. Americans might need wheelbarrows to haul the money necessary to buy a loaf of bread as happened in Germany in the '20s.

64. Before or after Bush tried to assassinate him?
Hinckley's brother was scheduled to have supper with Bush's son the day after the assassination attempt, which struck Blumberg as ''the most remarkable assassination coincidence in the history of this country.''

The friendship between the Hinckley and Bush families goes back more than a decade to their shared conquest of the oilfields of Texas.

I think he was just an actor, not more

75. Reagan brought out the mean and dumb side of the American psyche
and it has never been completely suppressed since.

He was the jovial front for the same sociopaths who continue to ravage our country.

76. Now do you mean Ronnie or Nancy?
I know Ronald was the official name, but I think you have to be more specific.

77. Republicans are now saying they need to be more like....
Reagan, that they should return to fiscal responsibility. That is odd considering there was nothing fiscally responsible about his policies. He was no different than modern Republicans who cut taxes but not spending, or even spend more!

He was one of the greatest crooks this nation has ever seen. Treason, corruption, and a bunch of other stuff I probably don't know about.

81. Just like Bush, Regan surrounded himself with lackeys and yes men.
Enough lackeys and yes men that he could literally - and did - get away with murder (see Iran/Contra). His presidency, just like Bush's, was all just one big public relations event.

Fuck him. He turned politics from issues to image. No substance whatsoever.

89. OK, that's like the scariest morph ever.
Like the flash above says: Bewsh 43 could never measure up to Reagan. Not even REAGAN could measure up to Reagan.

I have a rotten feeling historians are going to try and bullshit Lancelot Link's legacy the same way they did with Reagan, yet are going to have a far harder time doing it, considering he's not done ONE thing right in six years.
