HELP!: Looking for a toy doctor kit for a little girl
I want to buy a doctor kit for my little preschool aged niece and I am stumped. Every damned kit I come across is marked for a boy--pictures of boys on the box and on the medical bag itself. Kids this age are already conscious of what colors (blue, pink) are gender marked for them and they understand the photos. I really would like a medical kit either unmarked for gender or marked for a girl.

(Note: I am NOT trying to start a war here. Just looking for a link to a toy. I'm as pissed off as a feminist can be at the gender agenda I see in kids' toys, but this is not the thread for it. I just want to get a present for my niece.)

Thanks,

Nikki

13. You make an account with them, and you buy it, either with credit card or PayPal.

6. Google "Barbie doctor kit" -- there are two, one is the reg kit
Edited on Thu Nov-23-06 04:08 PM by Nay
you are looking for with a spiffy striped bag and all the accoutrements, and there's also a barbie VET doctor kit as well, with barbie as a vet.

Walmart seems to have both.

10. Here ya go...
This one just has a red cross on it, no picture of boys or girls:
http://www.mytwinn.com/genProduct.html/PID/3073399/ctid/17?cpncode=08-16498289-2&srccode=cii_5217346

This one I'm not sure of the picture on the case itself, but you could e-mail them and ask:
http://www.liveandlearn.com/doctorkit.html

Hre are a few listed at Amazon, you shuld be able to find something here:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=toys&field-keywords=play%20doctor%20kits&results-process=default&dispatch=search/ref=pd_sl_aw_tops-1_toys_14826611_1&results-process=default?tag2=amd-google-20

Good luck in your search

Thanks!

12. I found a few things
Doctor scrubs in PINK: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_10/602-5359229-2773411?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B000FBPW7U
I don't like pink and you might not like pink, but kids have already absorbed that particular color stereotype. They also have the scrubs in realistic green as well as little boy blue.

The kit from Penney's appears to show a boy, but the scrubs and equipment are androgynous green. Oddly enough, their housekeeping toys are gender neutral, with both boys and girls on the packages. They have a pediatrician kit with a girl on the cover (of course). http://www.jcpenney.com/products/C032766.jsp

They don't show the box on this one, but it's helpful the illustration doesn't show a kid: http://www.kaplantoys.com/store/trans/productDetailForm.asp?CatID=1%7C0%7C0&PID=80654&area=zilla&WT.srch=1

This one looks like the kid's lab coat says "Dr. Julie" http://www.lillianvernon.com/catalog/product_display.jsp?pdId=1716 It also may be too advanced for a kid under 4.

Good luck. I think the toys are out there, and maybe a male on the box won't be as toxic as solid blue toys within. I was a little girl who loathed dolls and loved tools and trucks and boy pictures on boxes didn't really influence me much. I knew what I liked, and maybe your niece will, also.

But a little old for my niece. I'm bookmarking it for later.

19. My kids moms are physicians, so they get to play with the real thing.
Or the cast offs anyway.
