Why I love DU ..... it is snark-tastic!
Set the scene .....

1. Posting about dumb ass Saudi Doc.

Women Asked to Leave Seminar

RIYADH, 22 November 2006 — A presenter from King Saud University at an international medical seminar at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center caused a stir yesterday when he insisted that all women — including medical and media professionals — leave the room before he would enter the room to give his presentation. Initially some women expressed consternation at the request, but later relented and left the room so the doctor and orthodox man could give his presentation about Islam and the ethics of organ donation and end-of-life issues.

Prior to the presentation by Dr. Yousef Al-Ahmed, the audience was informed that the doctor would not be in the same room with women when he spoke about medical ethics

3. As Winnie "No Prisoners" Churchill might have said
The steel of snark is best forged in the fires of adversity.

And yes, it does help to have a boat load of smarts, too.

"cootiephobia" :spray:

"We shall snark them on the beaches. We shall snark on the landing grounds. We shall snark in the fields, and in
the streets, we shall snark in the hills. We shall never surrender!"

Speech given by Winston "Skinner" Churchill 11/3/04

Can you imagine a Freeper reading this?

There are a hundred boats of smart people here and many more who can riff off of the other smart ones. It's a veritable feast of smart here. I love it.

4. I missed that thread, but I remember ages ago
in engineering school one of my classes was taught by one of those bug up the ass Muslims. He insisted all female students sit in the back row of a large auditorium with at least 20 rows of seats between us and the holy males. I could neither see the blackboard nor hear him well enough to understand him, so I complained. I was told that it was his culture and it was up to us to deal with it. I told the dean it was MY COUNTRY and if he wanted to teach in it HE was the one who needed to deal. The dean just gave me one of those blank, clueless male stares.

That's when I said fuck it and left.

7. You bet your ass it was.
Hell, I'd have settled for sitting ONE row behind the holy males, but TWENTY was too damned much.

I'm still steamed at the dean's lack of concern and the school's lack of action. I don't think it would happen today. It couldn't happen today.

We didn't have laws on our side back then.

12. It was the 60s
and now that the law's on our side the problem probably hasn't been repeated. If it has, it's been corrected by a school that doesn't want to lose a lawsuit.

22. I must apologize...
...for the flippant tone of my original post. I have since been made aware that cootiephobia is a very real and serious condition, suffered in silence by millions of second-graders. "No Girls Allowed" signs do not treat the illness; they only hide it.

Cootiephobia is not an occasion for cheap jokes.

24. I had many friends that were cootiephobic. It's no laughing matter.
It stole years from their young lives.

Later in life they tried to mask their shame by 'befriending' many women. Ironically, this behavior resulted in some contracted illnesses that required massive doses of penicillin to cure.

25. Yes like mumps
Usually a mild childhood disease, in the adult male, virulent and often debilitating. More to be pity than censored -- as we used to say at Miss Thistlebotton's Home for Wayward and Rowdy Hussies.
