When will the CorpoMedia stop giving fundies a microphone?
These people are not credible. I don't care how many of them there are, they are not credible and should not even be allowed in the BUILDING, let alone given a forum to spew their bullshit.

- Gayness is not something that can be cured
- Earth is more than 6000 years old and we didn't live with the dinosaurs
- Intelligent Design is not accepted by the scientific community

It doesn't matter to me that these people "believe" these things. They are LIES and they have no business in the "news". It's just amazing to me, what the media has become. It used to be about the truth, now it's all about the money. The media knows that a significant number of sheep follow these scam artists selling snake oil. That's all they are: A bunch of scam artists. The media just wants in on the action and that's why we get Larry King "interviewing" Dobson. That's why Falwell gets his own show.

MoneyMoneyMoneyMoneyMoneyMoneyMoneyMoney.

It sickens me.

1. Soon I hope !
If there ever were a group that got more attention than they deserve it's this bunch.
They have done much harm to society.

2. Blame the death of the Fairness Doctrine, in part
Ever since that time, it's become protocol to find a whacked-out fringe lunatic and give him a microphone to balance the "opinion" of the actual scientist who's speaking on the issue. The effect is to imply that the lunatic is speaking with equal authority and evidence, when in fact this is almost never the case.

4. So long as whacked out fundies divert attention from corporate takeover of the world...
they will have microphones and plenty of air time.

6. You are advocating censorship
You apparently would have journalists impose some sort of 'truth test' on everyone who might be given exposure. You also wrongly believe that in some previous era media coverage was all about truth.

7. I think the concern is how the scales are overwhelmingly tipped in one
direction.
the only people with access to media are republicans, right wing gasbags and evangelical right wing nutjobs.
The problem is, this is one narrow wedge of america, but it gets disproportional access and coverage.

That has nothing to do with censorship, but realistic parity of opposing views.

10. never . . . George Carlin explains it very clearly . . .
Edited on Fri Nov-24-06 03:36 PM by OneBlueSky
those in the "upper class" -- the wealthy, the decision-makers -- do anything and everything in their power to keep the rest of us focusing on our differences and battling with each other . . . the media is their propaganda branch, their "house organ" . . .

if we -- the middle and lower classes -- ever stopped fighting over these perceived differences, recognized our common humanity, and started fighting THEM, their game of taking and taking and taking would be jeopardized . . .

to Carlin, there are three classes . . .

the wealthy, who do none of the work, make/take all the money and resources, and pay none of the taxes . . .

the middle class, who do all of the work and pay all of the taxes while aspiring to wealth -- but mostly never get there . . .

and the poor, who are here to keep the middle class terrified so they'll keep doing all the work and paying all the taxes ("there but for the grace of God go I"} . . .

12. Never. Because they serve a purpose, i.e. getting Republics elected...
...who then turn around and give huge tax-breaks to corporate media.

Why would they want to shoot themselves in the foot?

The Fundies are useful in getting out the vote for republic politicians who in turn give big breaks back as compensation.

So, my answer to your question is: Never.

13. L. Ron Hubbard said it best - "religion is the most profitable business in America".
I hate to quote the guy, but no truer words have ever been spoken.
