MTV bans new Faithless "Bombs" video - MUST SEE! Brilliant work!
At least that's what the reports say, according to a pal of my wife's -- this is absolutely Brilliant videography, kind of catchy too. Parts of it took my breath away...

MTV Used to be so COOL when they started, well, okay, other than that Flock of Seagulls tin foil video that played 24/7 :)

Now they are Corporate Whores.

WATCH, you won't be sorry,

I just DL'd it to the Ipod, I have a video unit and this will be well played while I'm travelling during the holidays..

You know you can hook up a video Ipod to your TV without all that much trouble and share stuff like this.. you don't need the "special" configuration wires, all you need is a 1/8th inch jack out to two RCA connectors..

I'll poke around online, but if you Google it, you can see how you switch red for white on the RCA connectors (I think, if you just keep switching them you'll get it to play), then turn on the TV mode on the IPOD and watch all the goodies on your Ipod on TV.. and this one is supposed to be HiDef as well.. can't wait to get home to our REAL TV and watch it there.

Best Video I've seen in a LONG Time, just the vid says it all, eh?

Thanks for pointing that out, Lost!

I think this is an important work, plus I've got a young son, a toddler, and the way that they approach this cuts right to the bone.

This really DOES say, "what about the KIDS?" (and the planet, and culture, etc)

It's just brilliant, best of show I think :)

a lot of trouble to make sure these kinds of ideas are kept out of the mainstream. This is a very powerful video and should be widely seen. It might disturb a few people who have only a tenuous grip on reality though.

What a brilliant work! Mezmerizing and thought provoking. It should mandatory viewing - like the alerts they put on cable for child abductions. Like "You wanna watch some TeeVee? Here you go!"

And on the big screen, like a trailer before movies? This vid has IMPACT.

By the way, I had the privilege of attending "24 Hours of INSA" in Lyon in 2004. Techno Live is the shit, man! Totally awesome. I'd like to hear this duo in concert.

34. Dream Theater's "Just Let Me Breathe" an anti-mtv song
One of my fav things about EmptyV-the band especially drummer Mike Portnoy told that corporate whore of a station to go screw themselves.

Last year they celebrated their 20th anniversary to a sold out crowd of 6,000 at Radio City Music Hall.

Open your eyes
And turn off your mind
Step right up folks
Step right up folks
And you will find
A growing trend
An epidemic
Spread with zen
And hypodermics, yeah
Yeah

Just close your mind
You can find all you need with your eyes

The big machines take care of you
Until you kill yourself
And then the sales go through the roof
Calculated, formulated
Feed my head with simple thoughts
And let me breathe instead of being taught
All bottled up and tearing at the seams
Im bored
Just let me breathe

A daily dose of emptyv
Will flush your mind right down the drain
Shannon hoon and kurt cobain,
Make yourself a household name, yeah-yeah
Yeah

Just close your mind
You can find all you need with your eyes

The big machines take care of you
Until you kill yourself
And then the sales go through the roof
Calculated, formulated
Feed my head with simple thoughts
And let me breathe instead of being taught
All bottled up and tearing at the seams
Im bored
Just let me breathe

Strike up your best angst ridden posture, whoa
Manufactured anger
Lets not forget my legacy
All my heroes have failed me
Now theyre dead and buried, yeah

Just close your mind
You can find all you need with your eyes

The big machines will take care of you
Until the fashion fades
And the checks go through
My bankrolls red
And my face is blue
And still theyll turn their backs on me for someone new

Feed my head
With some real thoughts
And let me think instead
Of being taught
Ill say things
You wont believe
Just stand back
Just let me breathe...

61. Check out Dream Theater if you haven't already
Their primary influences include Rush, Yes, Kansas, Zepplin, ect-in other words Progressive Rock/Metal which is what they are which to me emcompasses the rock/bluesy/classical genre complete of course with odd time signatures and polyrythms.

At the bare minimum if you appreciate music from "schooled" musicians you owe it to yourself to check em out :)

I very much enjoy Dream Theatre... and The Tea Party... I tend to link them together in my mind due to the quality instrumentals.

Love Rush...

Led Zeppelin
Black Sabbath
Howlin' Wolf
Motorhead
Engelbert Humperdinck (both!)
Judas Priest
Diana Krall
Electric Light Orchestra
Johnny Cash
The Hidden Hand (anything Wino ever did, really)
Blue Oyster Cult (70's era)
Frank Sinatra
The Doors...

I could go on and on...

In one Music Video by Faithless it is the Anti-MTV. MYV Preaches a buy buy buy mentality and forget that there are bombs going off and blood spilling on both sides. In the MTV world crap is king, dont think just buy. Im sure if it was about every rap song thats being played now or recycled crap rock they would be playing it every hour.
The day MTV goes off the air I will dance a happy dance. Its the worst thing ever to happen to music.

They totally don't get it either. The kids who are supposedly their bread-and-butter, would love this video and the song is great, IMO. Tells me that the politics matters more than the money, in this particular instance.

Let's get this video out to as many people as possible. Word of mouth is a powerful thing.

If you want free speech and public, in the streets discourse
about things that matter then get your passport, dispose of
your liquids and mascara and catch a flight to anywhere but here.

And yes I know there are miserable repressed societies around the
world but you know what? That's why they still talk about politics
and change even in hushed voices. Americans don't want to
go beyond TV and Sports and Junk Journalism.

I've been here. I've been there. I haven't been everywhere
but that's my impression of what I have seen and lived.

Quite frankly, I would have turned the channel before the video got to the good part because the music is obnoxious. I turned the sound down about a third of the way through (it was heinously distracting) and found the video to be brilliant and heartbreaking.

Perhaps MTV put the kibosh on the tune because it sucks, not because of the video.

75. What is that picture you have there?
Seriously, it looks like someone got in a jar of Jam or something..

I don't want to embarrass myself and say, "Gee that's a funny looking pic.." and then have you come back and say, "That's ME!" :)

It's strangely fascinating tho, and I assume that's why you post it, eh?

If it is you or someone you love I apologise in advance :)

78. It's a Hillarious Pic
Edited on Sat Nov-25-06 02:52 PM by stepnw1f
Alot of folks here have asked me about it, just as you have. The pic is just a middle-aged lady laughing in the wind. My brother had found the pic somewhere on the "internets" and forwarded it to me. It's origin, I have no clue. When I first saw it, I laughed by myself for 10 minutes. After that I had to make it into an avatar. It says alot about my sense of humour actually.

BTW - This video and song is awesome. I am now a fan of Faithless.

I thought maybe it was your mom or something - tho I guess it IS someone's mom, love to see her kids :)

Jesus the nose hangs over her mouth, it IS damn funny, at first I thought it was a goatee

Thanks for clearing that up!

65. Amazing, striking video.
Seriously, that's the best juxtaposition of war with everyday ignorance and going-on-as-usual that I've seen so far. K&R.

68. Brilliant video.
How far has MTV slipped into meaningless drivel? They started out by being cutting edge in the early 80's and brought us Live Aid and hope through music. Now they are just pure crap. Useless reality shows, boring rehashed music, corporate sellouts. They didn't really even cover Live 8 last year. they just showed blips of it inbetween they're terrible hosts ramblings. Another failure of Congress this past year is that they had an opportunity to make the cable companies offer us individual channels instead of programming packages that force us to pay for crap. Congress failed in that one too. Free market capitalism my ass. More like the same old shit. Just the same this video is awesome and shows American compacency in the face of all the killing.

70. Images of War in an American dreamscape...
Cadres of military men crashing through American living rooms,. . . . bombs exploding on American beaches.

This is what it will take to prime the pump of empathy.

This is what it will take for the misinformed, insulated general American public to recognize that one mother clutching a child is very much like another mother, clutching a child.

Brilliant video.

71. These times
will be remembered by the art that is left for future generations. History will be the judge, and this video will be one of the footprints.

73. YES
THIS is Bush's Legacy, right here..

and Kiddies you might want to get used to troops in your school, just a matter of time, unfortunately..

That woman holding that child on the beach gets me every time, as one poster said, One mother clutching her child is pretty much the same as EVERY mother clutching a child for it's safety.

This looks GREAT on the video IPod, gonna share it with everyone :)

79. That's a Very Humbling Statement about Art
especially for me as an artist. I anly hope my art makes some small measure of change for the better... I know I feel better doing it, because it's something from the heart. To be remembered? Just wow....

82. It is humbling
As a visual artist ,myself, this war has had an effect - although I don't think I'm producing stuff that relevant. Art, whether it is music, sculpture, poetry, paintings, videos - it will define these troubled times. As hard as they try to censor, they can't shut down the need for the human spirit to express. It is what we've done through the ages.

I love this video, even though I can't hear some of the lyrics over the tech-no beat, it is the visuals with the children that are so haunting.
