FINALLY - MSM admitting it is CIVIL WAR in Iraq. Dems need to pound this home |
|
Warner said that once civil war is apparent, the IWR no longer remains relevant and that a new resolution would have to be obtained - as there is no mission in the IWR to be involved in a civil war.
That is why Murtha, Kerry and Feingold's withdrawal plans were drawn up dealing with the reality of civil war last spring - but too few Democrats are willing to admit that reality as it completely changes the mission and they have to acknowledge it.
Some Dems have come out and DANCED around as if civil war was not yet a reality and THAT is what is gumming up the debate.
Now that CNN, ABC and NBC today are reporting civil war as fact, it changes EVERYTHING. The Dems can no longer act as if they are waiting to see if civil war happens - it IS civil war NOW.
Time for us to demand the Senate VOTE AGAIN on their mission in Iraq, as Sen. Warner promised last summer during the withdrawal debate.

1. The normally slow AP now calls it a civil war too. . . |
|
as it looks like the American public does too.

4. It wouldn't happen right away anyway, but the DEBATE about the reality of civil war |
|
is one that needs to start happening NOW. It really needed to be had last spring when Murtha, Feingold and Kerry were speaking the truth about hwhat was happening on the ground in Iraq.
Now the GOPs are changing the rhetoric to it's the Dems' war now just as civil war is being used in the national media. If Dems don't jump NOW to establish it's in civil war NOW, then the GOPs wil control the media storyline YET AGAIN.

8. Agreed. The GOP can say it's our war but I don't think anyone |
|
is listening to them now, other than what's left of their usual base, some of whom stayed home, some of whom voted Democratic this year. I don't think many people believe the media anymore, either.

13. In a few months, though, media will be better able to make that case against Dems |
|
and I have no doubt that constant repetition will make it conventional wisdom by spring if Dems don't take control of story dealing with the FACTS on the ground NOW.

10. Yes! K&R,, I'm contributing an MSNBC link to Anne Curry and Richard Engel on NIghtly News |
|
Thanksgiving night, it appears Anne filled in for Brian Williams and had this exchange with Richard Engel from Baghdad. "Full out civil war". MKJ http://video.msn.com/v/us/msnbc.htm?g=de5ba07a-12c3-4e71-b7f5-ca661b75a3de&f=00&fg=email

15. Thanks - This is a significant turn for the media, and there are serious changes |
|
that can be had concerning the legality of the mission, if Dem leaders in the Senate push for it.

12. Any that don't see this is a civil war is totally in denial. That argument |
|
about the violence only being in a few parts of the country need to take a look at ANY civil war. Take a look at battle maps from our own Civil War. Based on the Repukes' spin, this country wasn't in a civil war, either.

There's another news video out at www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619/ titled "What are America's options in Iraq?"
Jim Miklaszewski tells Brian Williams that it may take the total collapse of the al Maliki govt. and the participation of the Iraqi army, before it equals a civil war. That's setting the bar a bit high I think. Iraqi army members were seen watching while civilians were set on fire by "sectarians." Is watching and doing nothing a form of participation? I think so.
We need to push this to our Senators and Reps. There is a patently obvious civil war now going on in Iraq, and we need to start getting our people out of there NOW!

Iraq has been in a civil war for some time. Isn't it odd that now Dems are in the majority the MSM finally calls it a civil war?
The new MSM meme: How are the Democrats going to end the "civil war" in Iraq?
Just a hunch.

17. More Dems should have acknowledged Civil War when it was apparent in the spring |
|
and media would have had little choice but to at least raise the question - instead, many Dems allowed Murtha, Kerry and Feingold to be treated as outside the mainstream and their withdrawal plans unrealistic, yet theirs were the oNLY ONES that addressed the REALITY of civil war AS IT HAPPENED.

18. Big development, but instead of taking any kind of action, many |
|
Dem's are waiting on the Baker Commission to finish it's report. Call me cynical, but I think this is all just a stall and the report will not have much that is new and offer some of the very same things Kerry/Feingold recommended back in June.

20. The shame is that many Dems went along with the pretending when they knew last spring |
|
it was civil war.
But as long as the media wasn't talking about it, they could get away with BushInc's pretense that civil war could be avoided - just so they could say they are tough on national security.
