I think we all agree Richards went WAY overboard using the N word toward hecklers....

BUT, what *exactly* do we think the outcome of this should be?

Should he pay money as penance? Is an apology enough? Should he make a tour of schools to repent? Should he be flogged in public? Should he be the subject of 239 new threads over the weekend here at DU?

WHAT would you think Richards should do to make up for his insulting tirade at his show?

(I really am curious here. Richards has umpteen threads about the usage of a word and Rape in Darfur gets maybe one post a day - - so I will ride the "popular" topic and forget Darfur for a day... Although what happens in Darfur daily sickens me far worse than what a pampered Comedian used as a word choice to an audience that could afford to pay in admission more than what most Darfurian people see in MONTHS.... Yeah, lets keep discussing hurt Feefees while women are raped, men are maimed and kids are killed... Priorities, afterall....)

1. Let his ship drift as it was before this event... into obscurity.

But now pushed by the winds of digust... he is finished as a "personality" which is how it should be.

2. He should donate to a charity.
It won't end the matter, but it will be something.

6. Okay, switch Manilow to the song "Muskrat Love"
That is truly the world's WORST song ever.

Agreed?

9. Unconsittutional!!!!
That song is the worst pop song of all time and forcing ANYONE to listen to it is overly cruel AND unusual punishment.

It's followed by "Honey" and "You Light up my Life," in that order. Any one of the three would be just as cruel.

14. Muskrat, muskrat ...
... candlelight
Doin the town and doin it right
In the evenin
Its pretty pleasin

Muskrat susie, muskrat sam
Do the jitterbug out in muskrat land
And they shimmy
And sammys so skinny

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin and jingin the jango
Floatin like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

Nibbling on bacon, chewin on cheese
Sammy says to susie honey, would you please be my missus?
And she say yes
With her kisses

And now hes ticklin her fancy
Rubbin her toes
Muzzle to muzzle, now anything goes
As they wriggle, and sue starts to giggle

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin and jingin the jango
Floatin like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

La da da da da ...

---

Ahhh, such wonderful nightmares.

19. Funny thing ...

Back in my "I went to a church that taught me to be terrified of God" phase, I thought, somehow, the lyrics to this song included the phrase ...

"Dancing with hell on a bulb ..."

I have NO idea what the fuck that means, but back then I was sure it was a bad thing and that this song was evil. Little did I know I was right, for the wrong reasons.

And something about the Captain's hat was just wrong...WRONG.

7. We should
I don't believe he owes anyone anything. He said what he meant and he should stand by that. Pathetic attempts at an apology are ridiculous and insulting to one's intelligence.

He should not be forced to pay anyone money or give to charity, so he can pretend that he isn't racist. He should simply stand by the words that ejaculated from his mouth. He meant them. Why bullcrap us?

Now what we should do is not support him and let his career spirial into fathomless bounds of nothingness.

10. Are you a fan of "Seinfeld"?
I am, and I'd like for Michael Richards to do something to compensate for his words, such as a charitable donation.

Richards is an idiot but his actions are naught but the proverbial mosquito on the arse of a woolly mammoth compared to the really heinous shit going on out there.

In any truly civilized society, a racist comment would be looked upon as a sign of ignorance and poor breeding, as if the offender was a step behind in the evolutionary process. Although some would choose not to believe it, we are all racists and bigots to some degree underneath, but only the backwards let these thoughts float to the surface (as opposed to the phsychologically unbalanced, who march in rallies and commit violent hate crimes)

If a friend viciously insulted a family member (and that's pretty much racism in a nutshell), I think most of us would dispense with lawsuits and protests and merely give that friend the silent treatment for the rest of our lives. That's what I think we should do with Michael Richards, and that's pretty much what we were all going to do anyway.

16. I used to love Seinfeld ....
I cant watch it now ....

Nature will take it's course, and Richards will be shunned, and live the rest of his life on residuals ...

His career is most likely over ... so be it ...

He made his bed ....

20. Rape in Darfur may get one post a day
But posts about people dying of starvation and lack of medical care in America...they're rarer than a Republican who actually served his country. Can we at least PRETEND to care about suffering Americans? You know, the whole charity begins at home thing?

For the record, Michael Richards is getting his own, well-deserved punishment: a career plummeting into the toilet.
