Blair is all upset, the Scots want to be free

http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/politics/article2013288.ece

Blair warns SNP win could lead to break-up of United Kingdom

The Prime Minister has launched a pre-emptive strike against the Scottish National Party as he warned that an SNP victory in next year's elections would plunge Britain into a "constitutional nightmare".

-snip-

More than 100 MPs have signed a joint SNP-Plaid Cymru amendment to the Queen's Speech calling on Mr Blair to come to the Commons with a new strategy for dealing with the Iraq crisis

-snip-

He denounced the SNP stance over Iraq, saying it was absurd to think that voters would decide the Scottish government on a single issue and lambasted their "obsession" with breaking away from the UK.

-snip-

Alex Salmond, the SNP leader, dismissed Mr Blair's challenge. He said: "Blair bashing the SNP is the ultimate act of 'boomerang politics', as it will simply return to haunt him.

"His attacks reinforce our position as the only challengers to Labour next year, and undermines any pretence that Labour in Scotland are capable of standing on their own two feet without interference from London. These desperate attacks are not a substitute for the substance Labour are clearly lacking, and are just another reason why more and more Scots believe that it's time for a change in Scotland, and time for the SNP."

Iraq is causing all kinds of waves around the world

5. LOL, Blair oversteps with Iraq,
And it winds up costing England the last remaining remnants of their empire. Good for the SNP. Hopefully Northern Ireland follows their lead, and rejoins with the rest of Ireland. That will leave England what, the Rock of Gibarltar?

6. Don't expect to see the N. Ireland thing happen
The Republic of Ireland gave up its claim to N. Ireland in 1998 and the majority of N. Irish (Protestants) don't want to become a minority in Catholic Ireland. I think they'll stay with Britain.

8. Yeah, but things could change
As England goes down the tubes, and British propaganda is combatted by Irish Republicans, minds could change:shrug: I'm not expecting it, but I thing that it would be a good thing for it to happen, and due to economic, geographic and familial ties, it will happen sooner or later. But the Brits have filled the heads of Northerners with so much nonsense, well, you're probably correct for the short term.

9. spent some time in scotland last year.
it is fair to say that they intensely dislike the Brits, and wish that Hadrian's wall was still standing. It is also fair to say that they absolutely hate Tony Blair, and in comparison to their feelings about brits and the UK in general, theirs is a proverbial love affair with the brit people in comparison.

There is probably one person higher on their list of people to intensely dislike. And that would be one George W. Bush.

The Scots don't show their emotions much; they are a practical, pleasant, polite and friendly folk, with a natural reticence that one breached turns into a warm friendship. Of course, if you cross them repeatedly, let's just say, I'd prefer to be elsewhere.

16. That's a gross overgeneralisation
For a start, the Scots are Brits. Some may "intensely dislike" the English, but a sure way to get on to a Scotsman's list of dislikes is to confuse 'British' and 'English'.

Secondly, very few Scots dislike Englishmen as a matter of principle. They're always perfectly friendly to me when I'm up there. Many may want the leave the United Kingdom (and exactly how many do want that is difficult to say - survey results seem to vary quite a lot), but that doesn't mean they dislike all the other people in it - just that they want their government to be closer, and more relevant to them, than London.

10. blair is treading water here.
scotland is going to go it's own way.

so instead of trying to hold back the inevitable why not try to make everything as smoothe and profitable as possible?

but no -- make it difficult and dramatic.

11. Way to go Scotland!
One of the reasons the US is an independant nation is because of the activities of SCottish Rite Fremasonry.Scot immigrants here brought with them their love of freedom in the colonial days.

12. I really like the Scottish people
I love their whiskey and ale and their oat biscuits, too. I can do without haggis and mashed turnips, however.

Really, Blair? Are you "warning" the people of what will happen if an opposition party takes control?

FUCK YOU!
