3. I have one of those magnets
because I think we do need to support our troops, especially when they come home. This war is turning many of them into monsters, as this video demonstrates well. They need lots of help to re-assimilate when they return.

17. I do too.....on a bumper sticker that says
"Support Our Troops. Impeach Our President." And another with a yellow ribbon that says "Support Our Troops By Holding Our Leaders Accountable." And in-between them, "Yee-haw! isn't a foreign policy."

4. do we still wonder why the world hates us
and people line up to strap on suicide bombs. This is what makes people pick up a rock to throw at a tank.

5. That's obviously horrific...
but I still think we need to support our troops. Troops who behave innapropriately should be punished but I believe most are honorable and do not want to be there. They're being forced into an impossible situation and I do feel for them... most of them.

9. I *do* support our troops
Just not the ones that behave like this. And I'm very saddened that Bush is wrecking our military, in so many ways, for his war of choice.

10. This is why we can't ask our troops to go to war
and then ask them to be peace keepers. War requires a that one dehumanize the enemy. You can't expect these soldiers to flip a switch every time it suits our fearless leader.

11. Five to six redeployments break the minds and bodies of the troops
With that you forget your human.

12. That's a shit thing to do, but don't make the mistake of thinking this is how all the troops behave.
That kind of attitude caused a lot of vets to get shit on when they came back from Vietnam - no one should have to go through that after serving their country (even when that service is exploited by the powers that be).

the two troops in that video might well deserve it.

14. Yeah, but
I hope we can resist the any tendency toward the Vietnam attitude. The people in the military signed up to defend our country. (And maybe to make a living, get college money, etc.) It's not their fault that Bush is using them like his personal pawns. (Of course, I don't mean this excuses stuff like Abu Ghraib--but the investigation of that should also have gone *much* further up the line.)

15. I was responding solely to the assertion
that "no one no one should have to go through that," which was made in a thread highlighting the conduct of two jerks who deserve to be held responsible for their inexcusable behavior. I made no comment at all regarding treatment of returning soldiers, in general.
