RE: Nora O'Donnell and the repug talking points. Why haven't we solved the war yet?
A beautiful rebuttal to the Dim-son brain-washed. Posted at another current events site. (Name witheld)

The very simple fact is that you SO-CALLED CONSERVATIVES are not honest enough to ADMIT YOU WERE WRONG. So you run all around and try to suggest those who opposed the war can't foretell the future. It is a STRAW-MAN.

Now let me give you the solution, and it is THE ONLY SOLUTION that will work:
1) The US needs to drop the hostility to IRAN. We cannot afford a war with Iran, so cut the bullshit.
2) The US needs to ENGAGE Iran, simply because IRAN IS THE NEXT DOOR Neighbor of Iraq. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that your next door neighbor has a greater interest in stopping thieves from looting your home than some guy who lives in a different state all together.
3) IRAN is a SHIA nation, 60% of the population of IRAQ are Shia, and they will respond more favorably to the Ayatollahs in Iran than they will respond to George Bush.
4) Engage Syria because it ALSO shares a border with Iraq and can have a positive influence on the Bathists in IRAQ.
5) To engage Syria, the US must force Israel to return the Golan Heights to Syria.
6) To engage Iran, the US must have drop it's opposition to Iran's nuclear program, after all there is NOTHING, repeat NOTHING, the US can do to stop the Iranian program. Nuclear programs are more about the acquisition of knowledge and expertise than it is about possessing "the bomb." Once you have the knowledge, the only thing that is missing is time and money, and Iran has plenty of Money.
7) The Ayatollahs are not stupid. All living organisms have an innate self-preservation mechanism. No they will attack Israel with nuclear weapons. They understand the consequences. However, the Iranians clearly understand, as the North Koreans, have demonstrated, the possession of a nuclear weapon is a huge INCENTIVE for peaceful co-existence. Just as MAD (mutual assured destruction) and detente worked for the USSR and the US during the cold war, is exactly how it will work with the Ayatollahs and the US.
8) Let the Kurds know in no uncertain terms, that they will not be allowed to form an independent Kurdistan.

Engage Iran, Syria and encourage them that it is in their interest TO HELP the US clean up the MESS it has made. Bring American troops home. They don't belong there. They NEVER did, and they NEVER WILL. For as long as they are there they will be targets.

Oh don't give me that malarkey that we have to fight them over there so we don't have to fight them over here. This is EXACTLY what Johnson said about the Russians in Vietnam. If we didn't stop communism in Southeast Asia we would be fighting them in Des Moines. Well we pulled out of Vietnam and in 30 years there has not been a single communist attempt to invade the US...except for the at the local WalMart, where everything is made in communist China.

You so-called conservatives were COMPLETELY WRONG about this war. We LIBERALS called it EXACTLY as it would turn out to be: a disaster from the very beginning. Just freaking man-up to your errors...EVERYDAY we stay in Iraq is one day too long for the family of some twenty-something year old kid from Kansas, Florida, California or somewhere in this country...and all because people will never say these three words:WE WERE WRONG!!!

2. My response to such people is always the same:
When Democrats receive all the information that has been withheld, and when Democrats are able to participate and encourage the exercise of due diligence, then Democrats will be able to create a plan.

The conservatives are asking us to build a house but are refusing to give us the blueprints. No can do. And I wish they would STFU if they're not going to give us the blueprints, which incidentally they have completely ignored, themselves.

3. Well said ...
A repost:

This really isnt that difficult to figure out (What to do in Iraq) ....

Not ONE WORD has been spoken for peace ... not a one ....

NO peace initiatives ...

NO summits or meetings between heads of states ...

NO discourse between parties ...

NO intermediaries ...

NO interlocutors for peace ... none ....

Its been WAR WAR WAR nonstop for over 3 damned heartbreaking years now ....

It is time to bury the 1000 hatchets, and start talking peace ....

It is time to brush off the olive branches, and slowly wave them before the eyes of the weary ....

Families, everywhere, deserve to be safe ....

Sunni familes ...

Jewish families ...

Shiite families ...

Christian families ...

Hindu families ...

Kurdish families ...

Atheist families ...

Mothers and fathers on ALL SIDES are tired of war ..... It is time to stop ....

It is time for great men to step forward, and break the ice for peace ....

STOP this breast beating nonsense ..... This tough talk, strident rhetoric, and bullying one-upmanship .... It is pure bombastic barbarism ...

It is time for great men to step forward, and offer peace to all sides .... to build a consensus for peace ....

The GOP is NOT the party of great men to speak of peace : they only speak of war built of internal hatreds unrequited ....

It is time for great men to put aside hatred for the sake of human families ....

It is time to speak peace ....
