Now THIS is BULLSHIT of the HIGHEST ORDER!! |
|
The producers of "An inconvenient truth" wanted to donate 50,000 copies for use in public schools. They were turned down. Read why here. Unbelievable. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/24/AR2006112400789_pf.htmlThis may be old news, but definitely worth a repeat.

discussed this briefly last evening and I was dumbstruck with Pat Buchanan. It takes a lot to dumstrike me, I'm old. I can usually take his right-wing sputterings but this was over the top. He actually said that the "whole warming issue is a scam." Those were his words.. I had to turn it off before I threw something at the TV. Did anyone else see this?

20. Pat Buchanan is a racist, homophobic, ultra-right wing scumbag. |

As it was said, consider the source. Buchanan is a total douchebag.
And welcome to DU. :-)

21. Buchanan should see the movie |
|
I defy anyone to look at the two virtually identical line graphs--of carbon levels and temperatures from the past several hundred million years--displayed early in the film and try to impugn the obvious correlation there. Scam my eye.

and that is after we killed the satellite, so we only have to ignore the locally broadcast crap. When we had 24 hour propaganda pumping into our home, it was pretty destructive.
ETA: Welcome to DU, hope you like it. :hi:

for the welcomes. I've been reading DU for quite a while and must say I am so impressed by the intelligent and well thought postings I read here. Far more true information than the MSM. I am learning so much. BTW, congratulations to us, I hope Pelosi knocks everyone on their butts and I'm thrilled to see she's going to insist they actually work for the month of January. There's a whole new uniform in town and it's an Armani. Go girl!!

|
Last years Congress=93 days. Good grief, we should figure out what they get per hour between salary, free stuff like haircuts, cafeteria lunches, exercise rooms, franking privilidges...the list is longer than I can remember at the moment. Good for Ms Pelosi, I hope she can keep them in line and in DC.

10. No wonder the hacks so often express an overwhelming need |
|
for the expertise of lobbyists-even the dems.
There's no way they can do the work without these bribery wholesalers to read and write legislation for them. They are so damn busy doing everything else but their jobs.
Poor Jon Tester; he's gonna be one sorry, frustrated individual on running into the way they do business.

Sundance Winner "The Corporation" Released for Free on BitTorrenthttp://torrentfreak.com/sundance-winner-the-corporation-released-for-free-on-bittorrentFor more...This, malicious/unethical manipulating the education of young people, is just the kind of thing "Corporations" shouldn't be allowed to do (and originally, they weren't--until they'd manipulated public opinion and infiltrated politics sufficiently to change the laws). Edit: fixed link...

12. I Am A Teacher. I Want To Show It In My School. Sugegstions! |
|
I teach 3rd grade, but the school I teach in is Prek-12. Is there a teacher's guide available? Maybe I could write my own. I just bought the DVD. I wonder if I could by another and donate it? What the heck - I wonder if President Gore would come and help me out. I would hope that teachers across this country realize that this does NOT mean that they can't show this movie, which by the way, isn't political, it's a movie every American should see! How about a house-party movement? Something? Let's NOT take this lying down! Our lives depend on it!

19. I teach Intro Psychology at a college and I am trying to figure |
|
out how to work "Inconvenient Truth" into my curriculum.
I think I can work it into the section during the first semester on what constitutes scientific evidence and how science progresses. In the second semester I think I can work it into the section on social psychology - groupthink and attitudes/persuasion.
I am not entirely sure HOW I will work it in, but I will!

24. How about an analysis of the power of propaganda -- how |
|
Americans were told there is no such thing as global warming by our own pResident and his Repug donor agency bigwigs. It has been an uphill battle for real scientists to get the word out. Gore's movie has made great strides in getting people to THINK and understand that they have been lied to by their own government.

13. this is why public education is becoming a big joke |
|
the concept of free exchange of ideas in a public forum is no longer a valid concept. to free one`s mind is not the goal in public education the concept now is to memorize concepts that can be easily maesured against the norm. god forbid that a teacher ever has to explain a concept that they may not have an answer to and do not care enough to find out. 2+2 always equals 4

22. This decision has nothing to do with teachers. Teachers are powerless to |

determine actual curriculum, in many instances. (They can speak about AIT, though, I hope. ;)).
