1. Why the obsession over a category?
Why is this the most important thing for the media to focus on?

Will calling it a civil war help anything? will calling it genocide help?

2. Words Mean Things
Controlling the message is one way of trying to manipulate the populace. If you can call a war by another name you lessen the impact of the word used to convey the message. The reality of what goes on on the ground in Iraq is known only to the people who are there, but the words and images selected to convey that reality, even in part, can make a real difference.
