There are two little Chippewah boys who are missing here in northern Minnesota,
It's 4am and I can't sleep because of the worry for them.

They are Chippewa boys from the Red Lake Reservation.

Ages 2 and 4. They have been gone for 3 days.

It is cold up here and those little fellas don't stand a chance.

I am amazed that I haven't seen a thread about this here on DU.

Please send good thoughts out to those boys. If they are still alive, they are cold and thirsty and scared.

3. Very sad story
I can't help but think that someone took them. The last I heard was the searchers were checking some bear dens, but never heard any more.

11. Their mother left them outside to play - alone
She checked on them often, but within a span of 10 minutes, they were gone. Who in their right mind leaves a 4 y.o. and a 2 y.o. alone outside? One of my neighbor's does this with her 4 y.o. and it burns me up.

18. I'll withhold general judgment,
but in this instance the mother said >>he "loves water" and had wandered off before, "but we always found him. This is the first time we didn't find him." After the first time he wandered off, that should have alerted mom to watch more carefully.

(I'm withholding general judgment since I don't know the setting in which this family lives. I suspect I was occasionally outdoors by myself and/or with siblings at that age without constant parental supervision in a rural setting in which that practice was not particularly dangerous.)

22. we were out in the middle of nowhere in az... i know we were. i only
started allowing boys out alone lol when son hit 9 working on ten. i still dont allow my just turned 9 out there alone unless his older brother is with him. that is extreme on the other side. my issue has more to do with the pitbulls across the way though. i would never leave young ones alone... but how i raise my kids are not like others.

truly just the saddest. will be thinking of all up there

I am hoping and praying they will be found.

This tends to make you hope it's a family dispute and someone has them and is taking care of them.
It doesn't sound like they have leads in that direction though.
Very sad.

14. this is last day of searching
they will call off the search after today. They still need volunteers, so if you are in No. Minnesota, they can use the help. Very rugged rural area, vanished within 20 minutes from their yard.

17. Deja Vu.
We lost an 8 yo boy at Crater Lake recently.

http://www.oregonlive.com/newsflash/regional/index.ssf?/base/news-17/116436052393810.xml&storylist=orlocal

2 and 4 yo, and gone in the winter cold for 3 days? The best I can do is hope that it was relatively quick.

19. If they used infared the first night, and found nothing, even in the lakes---
then it was an abduction, yes?

So, did they use infared? Or are "they" still searching for Natalee in Aruba?

Red Lake is, IIRC, on an Indian reservation--a high poverty/no jobs semi-remote town. It was the scene of a school shooting a year or so ago.

I'm thinking (hoping?) some soon-to-be-caught slightly loopy woman wanted two toddlers to love, and went to the poor side of town to find 'em.

21. I doubt it was an abduction. The boys were wanderers.
They live in the woods...many ponds and lakes in the area.

Extensive air searches show no broken ice, but that doesn't really mean much.

I can tell you, they don't stand a chance after last night. It got cold..really cold.

Red Lake is just up the road from me and it is very hard living up there. Times are tough for those folks.

They will still be working the case, but not on a large scale.

Where did they go?
