|
He called his college scholarship a parody of the Hispanic scholarship.
And now for his real motive. He wants to give more school choice, vouchers, etc. which really means defund the public school system and public college system.
The guy looks like a bigot amd a racist to me.
Looks like the type of person who would set up a new branch of PETA, People easting tasty animals.

4. Personally, I support the idea of the scholarship. |
|
I hope it leads some unsuspecting little redneck into an exposure to liberal ideas and values.
When I was a stripling, back in the late 17th century, many's the Republican farm kid who would wander into the jaws of the liberal state university, never to be quite the same again. It's quite an experience to go to class every day and have your narrow little notions repeatedly challenged by the fine liberal minds around you.

20. I know, I know, you guys. I was just trying to rhetorically counter |
|
the exclusionary attitude of the OP. Personally, I just think it would be a good thing if more people were educated at places like BU and fewer went to places like Southern Wacko U and the University of Fundiesboro. Students in places like that never even get exposure to actual scientific theories or mainstream philosophy.

24. So this post was about trashing southern universities? |
|
I'm sorry I responded then. The South has some of the finest and oldest universities in the country. And college campuses, regardless of location, tend to be more liberal unless they are specifically built around a conservative religious premise. Try being a racist in a classroom at University of Virgina and see how long you last.

That still assumes that Bob Jones University would take this Republican group from BU who put together this silly amount of money for a scholarship. They might be really picky and only want fundamentalist Republican students.

It really grates on me when people imply that everyone and everything down here is bigoted. Yes, this is largely unrelated to the subject, but many of us down here believe just as much in equality and the ideals of the party.
Just sayin'.

There is nothing in the thread topic which is not pure bullshitter baiting. Using southern bigoted sterotypes is standard when setting up a bait thread.

Yes, this is largely unrelated to the subject, but many of us down here believe just as much in equality and the ideals of the party.
The people who make remarks like this tend to be northerners who attack the south while ignorant of it as well as blind to their own surroundings, and less often but often enough, Southern young people who have never been north or west, but imagine it to be something it isn't.
Of course, then there are the really fun folks who can't open their mouth without south-bashing, while living in a state like Vermont which has a whopping 5% minority student enrollment in college.

16. While I disagree with the scholarship, students have a right to do this |
|
Although there are some colleges that might try to screen out non liberal students, most "liberal" colleges are open to students with a variety of ideas. The college that I went to repeatedly told us that part of their mission was to challenge our beliefs and values. That doesn't mean that they wanted all of us to abandon all our beliefs and values. It meant that they wanted us to critically examine our beliefs and values, which would either strengthen them or perhaps cause us to change some of them. They were also aware that all of us would not come to the same conclusions. Typically an expectation of monolithic thought is a characteristic of conservative religious colleges, not liberal colleges and universities.

If you're going to bash an entire geographic area, learn how to type coherently. :eyes:
Many eastern schools, like the one I go to, are revolving doors for elitist, Republican blue-bloods. Consider that. Harvard, Yale, BC, etc. Don't think they're all liberal havens.

The BUCR just ran a national publicity campaign for white pride on a budget of $250. You gotta give them some credit. That's just the kind of innovative efficiency that is so desparately needed... IN IRAQ.
Hell, I say send the entire BUCR to Iraq. They'll have that place whipped into shape in no-time flat. And given the bush administration's pattern of appointing recent college grads with no experience to critical positions in the occupation gov't based on ideological compatibility alone, I think there's plenty of precedent.

what a load of crap this post is. just another attempt to bash the south. how do you know the students are from the south?
Why are african americans migrating back to the south in large numbers? what is the point of this idiotic post? since when is a college in Boston a sterling example of racial integration? I don't expect any answers, attempt at alienating an entire portion of the country already made.
