Duncan Hunter still believes we can win this "war" in Iraq...
The Congressman from CA, Duncan Hunter, was on MTP this morning and was mostly standing alone with his opinion. He was on a panel with several other guests, including a couple of retired Generals and a Democratic Congressman, Ike Skelton. Most agreed that the Iraqis would need to be trained to take over security around Baghdad before American troops could be withdrawn.

However, Rep. Hunter reminded everyone of how Ronald Reagan had sent all those weapons into Eastern Europe to challenge the Soviet Union and that was why we won the war. He said we need to show the same staying power in Iraq if we are going to win the war. He seemed to be out of touch with reality...and he's running for President?

1. Paging Duncan Hunter -- your draft card is ready.
Let that creep grab a rifle and go stand a post in Fallujah.

he may be an ill informed asshole, but he's no chickenhawk. He was in the nam and also has a son that's been deployed to Iraq.

3. That fact that he is running for President shows just how delusional he is
His ill informed opinions on Iraq are only the latest manifestation of a larger problem

4. "Training Iraqis" is as big a delusion as " we can win the war."
There is zero viability in either statement. We've trained the Iraqis. They use the training for their death squads. Or they stand by and watch. They will not go after their own people on our command. They fight for their sects. Their tribes. Not for "Iraq." Not for anything the US wants...ever.

9. Good point, aquart!
They have a tribal mindset. The strongest tribe will eventually rule - just like Saddam ruled.

8. Yea I heard that too.
Hey Duncan (why someone would name their kid after a cake mix I'll never know);

Get a CLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Cold War did not end just because of Reagan's decision to put Pershing's and GLM's in Europe; it ended BECAUSE the old USSR couldn't keep up with our spending. You know, that $4 Trillion Dollar thing Sir Raygun left us with after getting elected by ranting against Carter's $900 Billion Dollar debt.

If this man takes the Oath in Jan 2009, I'm outta here.

12. And General Barry McCaffrey (also on MTP) still believes...
that invading Iraq and taking out Saddam Hussein was "the right thing to do". How in God's name can anyone honestly believe that crap considering the consequences of this godforsaken excursion. I just cannot fathom it. What a depraved LUNATIC... him and anyone else that thinks like that! :grr:
