What, 10 days after Rangel announces that we should have a draft, Some DUers are still allowing the brilliant meme to go right over their heads.

Amazing isn't?

2. Why insult us?
It hasn't gone over my head at all. I think it is a very dangerous proposition even if the point is to have discussion. We need discussion but the draft issue is not the discussion we need to have.

4. Really--- Did you watch Lawrence O/Donnel the other night
going after the chickenhawks?

It may not be something great for faint-hearted Dems, but I aint faint hearted....

9. Yeah, you're gonna more than faint if there is another false-flag
operation against this country. It could happen in a heart beat and the very bill Rangel is putting forward could be amended to give rich kids an loop hole and passed in one day. The only thing that slowed the neocon imperialists down is that they didn't have a standing army to occupy Afghanistan, Iraq and to invade Iran. That is what they want and if they have to kill 3,000 citizens of 3,000 soldiers to get it they'll do it and not look back. The problem you and so many Democrats have is that you still refuse to see the reality of the situation we're in. This is not politics as usual and hasn't been for six god damned years.

12. trumad, we just disagree on this, no hard feelings from my end. I think that the current state
of the American general population is way too simple minded for this to work out any way except as an extreme negative for the Democratic party.

I think that now that Democrats will actually have the majority and the ability to make laws and not just provocative proposals with no chance to pass, that they should do so, whether it's on important issues that should be relatively non controversial and popular, like min. wage, Medicare pharm. price negotiation, voting/election reform, eliminating earmarks and other incentives for corruption, campaign finance reform, etc.

I think if the Bush/Republican war policy is to be challenged, the best way is through serious debate and possibly disapproving funding, since the Democrats HAVE been elected with a mandate to change our current situation, all Republican spin nonwithstanding.

I personally feel the Rangel proposal is the opposite of brilliant. I thought so the first time I ever heard of it a long time ago, I feel this way even more so now that the majorities are achieved. We on this board can have honest disagreement without one side being accused of "not getting it", I hope.

15. Yes, well.........
Some DU'ers love to be outraged. They just can't help themselves. They know the things they say are just silly but if they admit to that then they couldn't be all self-righteously indignant about it.

8. Trouble is, sometimes the bluff is taken seriously
And that is what appears to be happening with Rangel's bill. He was proposing this a couple of years ago, trying to make a point. Now all the sudden this nonsense is being considered seriously on its own merit. Bad, bad, bad. You enact a draft and you've given Bushco enough warm body to fulfill his PNAC dreams. Not a good idea.

he's right.

It's about time everyone had a personal stake in our foreign affairs.

16. Any rep. who has the time to "bluff" the american public or his colleagues
deserves to leave office. No one sent rep.'s to Congress to waste time bluffing people. We have seen enough bullshit the last six years. And BTW, some undetermined number of people on DU and probably elsewhere really DO support a draft.
