The "real" story about the scholarship for whites. |
|
But NOT A SINGLE "news venue" got it.
Here's the story..
Pasty-faced, whiny, crybaby, racist republican club at college tries to "buy" national TV/radio/newspaper coverage of their "kooky" ideas...for $250.00

13. Well, he's certainly wrong with the 85% number. |
|
It's just a bit over 75% white. Probably a bit higher than the percentage whites for their age cohort, but not much.

7. We can beat them at their game |
|
apply for the scholarship, and donate the proceeds to the United Negro College Fund.
And match it, dollar for dollar.
That would certainly make the news as well, and embarrass the hell out of them.

Heck, an awful lot of African-Americans are 25% Caucasian.
Strom Thurmond's grandchildren, for example (assuming his daughter had children?)
How does one prove that one is 25% Caucasian? It's not on birth certificates. If he goes by appearances, plenty of students who are, say, 50% Latino and 50% "white" definitely LOOK Caucasian.
Ah, whatever. It's good to hear that no one has applied for it.

10. Talk about a waste of an 'education'! |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-26-06 04:49 PM by TahitiNut
The failure to comprehend the generational toll of racism is appalling. The "level playing field" metaphor just doesn't cut it when it comes to racism and people whose ancestors were slaves. 200 years of people prevented from giving their children a better education, a better start in life, and even an inheritance from owning property and accumulating some savings ... generation after generation.
It's appalling enough to deal with sexism, homophobia, and other bigotries ... where creating a "level playing field" might be a sufficient correction, but those aren't inherited disadvantages. Race, and the advantages or disadvantages of institutionalized bigotries, cascades down through the generations.
These "Young Republicans" (Hitler Youth is more like it) just don't seem to be worth the educational resources being wasted on them if they don't get this.

Well said, TahitiNut! Well f---ing said! :applause:
I would add, imagine having your ancestors' actual last names erased by someone in control over you, and never knowing, past a certain date (ours is late 19th century), what your great-great-grandfather's surname really was -- just because of the color of your skin and what it made people in power do to you. While everybody else in class can just point in a scrapbook and smile at their ancestors, knowing their names. That felt *really* bad as a child. :(
My ancestors were renamed like pets. Fluffy Binky Doodles
It boggles the mind, and it's one of the reasons I legally changed my name. My ancestors were not McCoys and Chatmans. McCoys and Chatmans were white people who owned them like pets and renamed them like pets. Doodles Smith, my parakeet. Binky Jones, my kitty cat. Fluffy Johnson, my puppy. Bessie McCoy, my slave.
Boggles. the. frickin'. mind.
