Edited on Sun Nov-26-06 08:41 PM by undeterred
We've lost 62 in Wisconsin. 59 men and 3 women killed for George W. Bush's illegal war. It may be low compared to VietNam but its too many. We have to keep their memory alive by ending the occupation as soon as possible.

State by state information and other totals are here.
http://www.icasualties.org/oif/

On November 16 a 26 year old man from Waterford, Wisconsin lost his life during combat operations in Balad Ruz, Iraq. Schiller, born Nov. 7, 1980, graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., in 2003 with a degree in Chinese. He also attended the International School of Amsterdam in the Netherlands and graduated from the Shangai American School in May 1999. Schiller's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal. Schiller also earned the Ranger Tab, Expert Infantryman Badge and Master Parachutist Badge.

"Their real duty is to refuse to comply and go to jail" is not so easily done.

22. So it's easier to murder others than to sit in jail for refusing to do so?
I guess our soldiers aren't cowards when it comes to killing women and children but they are cowards when it comes to spending time in jail for going awol. Iraq women and children are just as valuable as any American or is it like the Israelis say "they are dogs and rock huggers". BTW I have pictures and video of our soldiers mass killing Iraqis from before the military caught on to what was being attached to emails from my friends who were over there.

33. Grieving the loss of our own is not incompatible
with grieving all the losses of this war. I have not lost someone close to me in this war, but when I read about someone who grew up less than 100 miles away, and who only recently finished high school, and who truly desired to serve our country, it becomes real.

These are our own sons and daughters who might have been needed to fight in some other more noble conflict or serve in some better way. Instead their lives were wasted by a commander in chief and a secretary of defense who have no idea what it means to go to war or to sacrifice a son or daughter- so they will never know the cost.

If you want to dance on the graves of the dead soldiers..start another thread and don't use one intended to honor the fallen. That way if we don't want to read your errr..stuff...we can skip it.
You can have your very own special "I hate the military" thread and we can all avoid it.

It would be much better to do it in a different thread where we are not trying to remember the sacrifice of the dead.

Do you have personal knowledge of why each joined the military? Or when they joined the military? Or how many have been stop lossed and cannot quit? Judge not lest you be judged. Hate you for a supposed quote from Jesus? You do have a problem.

12. When was it....
that there was a nation-wide vigil...for the 2000...that had died? I remember I made a sign that said Y2K?..and I printed out the names. I was shocked at how many pages there were. I thought to myself..if I'm shocked at the amount of paper just imagine how shocked I'd be to see what that many bodies looks like. Really made me sick. I ended up writing the names of those that had died from our state on my sign. That is all that would fit.

13. Maybe about a year ago?
Seems to me it was about this time of year. I got a map of my state and put 50 flag stickers on it, one for each loss. It makes me sick to think that so many of them did this as a way to get money for school and this war was nowhere on the horizon when they signed up. Who would have known we'd have such a wreckless commander in chief, who doesn't care about the cost on either side when he declares war.

14. Oct. 24, 2005
I remember it well because it fell just two days before my mother's birthday... a date that has hit me hard since she died. I honestly didn't think there was a way for me to sink much lower than grieving her had already put me. Then, of course, the 2000 mark was hit. I spent that night downtown at at candlelight vigil.

It seems like more because it's always reported in the local news when someone from Ft. Richardson or Ft. Wainwright is killed, even though they're not "from" here. I believe I read that seven of the 172nd Stryker brigade was killed in between the time they were supposed to come back here in August and now, when they've finally been allowed to return.
