for feelings of inadequacy. Often brought on by trying to "prove yourself" to your father-figure. Often, these inadequate feelings can be somewhat offset by a nurturing mother-figure. However, if the mother-figure is more demanding than nurturing it only adds to the problem. Especially if the male child perceives that the maternal figure is stronger than the paternal figure despite the fact that the child is raised in an environment that portends that the paternal figure should be dominant.
No, I'm not a psychologist. I live in the South. This is where Men like to think they are in control, and strong women are content to let them go on THINKING that.

I'll bet it's true. A psychologist friend once told me that she'd read that abused kids who have not worked through their issues are typically rethugs, and if they have worked through them (in therapy)they are more likely Dems. Seems related.
