Rangel Redux: the draft debate continues.
So when the Rangel supporters made their case with 'but he doesn't really want the draft, it is just a rhetorical device' was that just a rhetorical device? It seems to me that essentially the same people here are now arguing that the draft would be a real good thing. I conclude that quite a few of them were simply lying back when they were explaining Rangel's ploy to all of us who were too dim to understand the brilliance behind it and 'just didn't get it'.

We got it. No draft. No Way.

1. I conclude you merely are looking for an argument.
It has been established that there will be no draft no way.

2. It has noting to do with the brilliance of the idea
And everything to do with the practicality of it.
That is the part you do not get.
In a perfect world we would not need a military at all and that is what I am aiming for, but in the meantime while we are ruled from time to time by madmen we must be pragmatic.

3. Different People Have Different Opinions
I take Rangel at his word - that when the Barbaras, Jennas, and Chelseas of the world have to fight wars, their daddies and mommies won't be so quick to wage them.

4. A draft bill would never pass but the problem is
(and the only major problem I can see is) The republicans can now use this issue against the Democrats in 2008. Can't you just hear them..
"If you elect a Democrat the draft will be reinstated"The MSM will be using this issue to spread the Repuke propaganda 'till elction day 2008.Rangel should have just kept quiet.
