WAR ON PEACE - Woman Faces Fine For Xmas "Peace Wreath"
Woman faces fines for wreath peace sign By ROBERT WELLER, Associated Press Writer
Sun Nov 26, 11:13 PM ET

DENVER - A homeowners association in southwestern Colorado has threatened to fine a resident $25 a day until she removes a Christmas wreath with a peace sign that some say is an anti- Iraq war protest or a symbol of Satan.

Some residents who have complained have children serving in Iraq, said Bob Kearns, president of the Loma Linda Homeowners Association in Pagosa Springs. He said some residents have also believed it was a symbol of Satan. Three or four residents complained, he said.

"Somebody could put up signs that say drop bombs on Iraq. If you let one go up you have to let them all go up," he said in a telephone interview Sunday.

Lisa Jensen said she wasn't thinking of the war when she hung the wreath. She said, "Peace is way bigger than not being at war. This is a spiritual thing."

2. "Peace on earth, good will toward Man..." How un-Christmasish!!!
I guess "kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out" is more in keeping with the spirit of the holidays?

6. Wait a minute! Since when can a homeowners assoc. assess a fine?
Doesn't a violation of a homeowners assoc. rule have to be coupled witha gov't authority who would actually issue the fine?

current state government system, and adopt a new type of government - rule by homeowners associations. Already we see that homeowners associations are more powerful and despotic than even the gubernator. How long before California just gives up and tuns the state over to them?

8. So typical of rethug behavior.
The association in this 200-home subdivision 270 miles southwest of Denver has sent a letter to her saying that residents were offended by the sign and the board "will not allow signs, flags etc. that can be considered divisive."

The subdivision's rules say no signs, billboards or advertising are permitted without the consent of the architectural control committee.

Kearns ordered the committee to require Jensen to remove the wreath, but members refused after concluding that it was merely a seasonal symbol that didn't say anything. Kearns fired all five committee members.

So, the committee didn't do his bidding, and he fired them? Typical. I don't get my way, so I'm taking my marbles and going home to pout. Must come from the W way of ding things. Tantrum and pout and force his way on everybody.

And here is the offending wreath:

Wow. How offensive.

9. I love it.
It shows how pathetic and stupid these pro-death, anti-peace, pro-war, "pro-life" people have become.

15. I made mine last year!
It's really easy to do with the fake garlands out there and an extra set of lights. My peace wreath was the only xmas decoration I put up last year, to make a point. It's going to be the the same this year.

11. Peace for Christmas
I understand that Colorado has a lot of military folks. Would that be the basis for not wanting a visible peace sign? It would be a sign of anti-military sentiment which would be seen as negative.

To me the peace sign came out of the sixties peace generation and is a non-violent sign and I don't believe I have ever seen it misunderstood to be a sign of satan, weird!

14. This sounds like the work of one of Phil Hendrie's characters
Bobbie Dooley president of the Western Estates Homeowners Association would be all over that satanic peace wreath.

But once again truth is way weirder than fiction.

For those who don't know, Phil Hendrie does a radio talk show where he does the voices of a host of outrageous characters who appear as "guests" on his show. The fun part is when callers thinking the "guest" is real, call in and argue with them.

Dooley is one of those "guests" who appears regularly always in an uproar about how one of the homeowners has violated the rules by putting up the wrong kind of wallpaper or having a guest stay too late or some other minutia issue.

Christmas? I guess I'd better not mail out those dozens of Christmas cards I have that say, "Peace at Chirstmastime".
