Gentle reminder: the fight for SCOTUS is far from over.
Edited on Mon Nov-27-06 10:10 AM by WilliamPitt
John Paul Stevens was born in 1920. He is 86.

Scalia was born in 1936. He is 70.

So was Anthony Kennedy. Also 70.

Souter was born in 1939. 67 years old.

Ginsberg was born in 1933. 73 years old.

Bryer was born in 1938. 68 years old.

So, that's six of nine Justices older than 65, four above the age of 70, and one knocking on the door of 90.

This will become a serious, era-defining issue within the next 5-10 years.

I think we need to concentrate on expanding our Congressional majority in 2008, as well as taking back the White House.

If the Supreme Court is to be salvaged - nay, reborn - we will need these offices very badly.

1. Think good thoughts about John Paul Stevens...
and Ruth Ginsberg. Hope that they stay in good health for another 2+ years. And work hard for a Democratic President and congress. Then.. with a 2 term president, we might well get to name 5 to 6 new justices.

O'Connor is no longer on the court.

2. Great Post Will
I saw you post this in another thread... this definitely deserves it's own thread. People need to realize what's on the line and how much work we are all up against.

How'd ya like that Pats game yesterday?

3. I threw up in my mouth watching it
Ugh. We didn't win, but simply failed to give the game away.

The NFC should be ashamed of itself. If the Bears are the "iron" of that league, the Super Bowl will be decided in the AFC Championship game. If the Pats had put the ball on the rug five times against even a mid-level AFC team, we'd have lost by eleven touchdowns.

Not a lot of fun...but thanks for asking. ;)

7. Kinda capped my day

I was forced to watch the Steelers get routed with my Pittsburgh die-hard friend yesterday afternoon. He swallowed his own tongue in the third quarter, but I saved him. By the end of the game, I decided it would have been better just to let him die. :)

9. There Is Nothing Like a True Steelers Fan
The Steelers are hurting.... honestly, I think the Super Bowl could go to any of the top teams.

PS - watch Indy fall apart. They have historically struggled in the second half of the season. It will be interesting whether I'm right or wrong.

11. I have no doubt
Gambler's mantra: Bet heavily on Manning and the Colts during the regular season. Bet the house, farm, kids and kidneys against them in the playoffs.

It is becoming axiomatic. :)

5. Another poster here
has hinted at the possibility of Scalia facing impeachment.Do you think there is any possibility such action could be brought up?

10. If indictments are brought against Rumsfeld by the International Court
Edited on Mon Nov-27-06 10:19 AM by solara
for war crimes, wouldn't it then be possible for the others who bear responsibility for the mass murders in Iraq too also be indicted? The Judges of the Third Reich did not escape punishment for their crimes against humanity, why should ours? Why not Scalia? Of course, I am considering any who enabled this administration to be culpable.

(edited for spelling)

6. I'm just hoping that Stevens
holds on for the next two years, and that a dem president is elected, but for me the SC is always one of the most important issues.

12. I hope they show that they are the obstructionists they already proved to be
There might be three that are worthy but the rest I think will more than likely be quite foolish again.

After the thwarting of democracy in 2000 they have no standing in my book in any case

These guys will likely mummify before they step down.

You're right. We should worry. But we may not have a choice but watch the train wrecks. Ugh.
