CBS re: Iraq: "does not presently see any reason to refer to the situation as a civil war"

http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2006/11/27/publiceye/entry2210354.shtml

<snip>

But according to Linda Mason, Senior Vice President, Standards and Special Projects, CBS News does not presently see any reason to refer to the situation as a civil war. She said that any decision to do so would come from the network as a whole, not any individual program.

"We're just covering the war, and I think we're doing a good job," said Mason. "We don't see a need to characterize it one way or another right now." Mason noted that "that could change."

1. Yeah, they asked Katie Couric's colon, and it said 'no' for now
CBS has gone from Dan Rather to a complete fucking joke in less than 24 months.

It is truly a shame when Matt fucking Lauer outclasses the entire CBS News organism with a TODAY show announcement that they will in fact now acknowledge the obvious.

2. In the final analysis
it is the viewers who will decide if you're doing a good job Mr. Mason. A decline in viewership will be a clue as to how they are feeling about the job you're doing.
