I want Impeachment ...
To not impeach this president is criminal.

It does a disservice to this democracy, if we can call it that. It's a dangerous precedent for future totalitarian warmongers to not hold this president accountable.

Impeachment! It's IMPERATIVE!

LYING us into a "war" certainly is an impeachable offense.

This far exceeds lying over a "BJ".

I just don't get those that are against impeachment.

This is our recourse against tyranny and if anyone doesn't think Bush has been tyrannical, they've been asleep for the past 6 years.

I just read the opposing "I don't want impeachment" thread. It's pretty fucking sad that someone who is a democrat is so unfamiliar with the Constitution.

How do you know we don't have the votes without impeachment (and the accompanying investigations that are part and parcel with it)?

This defeatist attitude is sickening.

34. Welcome to DU!
I want IMPEACHMENT, too.

I'm guessing the worse bush looks, and the more of a curse he becomes to his party, the more of them we'll soon see - wanting to throw him under the bus to save their own skins. Happened with Nixon. He wouldn't have given up the ghost if it weren't for his own people going to him and convincing him to give up because he'd lost the support of his own party.

Things change. The more bush remains the same, things will likely change. Especially if his fellow GOPers think he's gonna take them all down with him. They don't love him THAT much.

9. Then what you are saying is that because incoming Speaker of the House,
Nancy Pelosi, said that impeachment if off the table is that she is a criminal? Because you did say that not to impeach is criminal and she could certainly set the process in motion. And because Conyers agrees with her, he is also a criminal? I just wonder which of our Democratic leaders in onboard with impeachment right now? Please, could somebody provide a list of the members of the next Congress which are calling for impeachment now? Plus, how about a list of the potential 17 Republican senators who would vote for conviction? I say 17 because you really don't believe that Lieberman would vote to convict?

You can have impeachment when you nail down 67 Senators who will vote for it. Bear in mind, of course, that not all of the 51 Dems in the majority caucus will not be interested. Ergo, you'll need 20+ Republican Senators to join in.

OK, cool. I thought you all were talking about actually accomplishing something. That would mean conviction in the Senate after a trial.

I guess we just want a show, followed by a thumping defeat in the Senate, followed by a total electoral wipeout in 2008 and reinstatement of all the assholes we just finished getting rid of.

38. Was that sarcasm?
Take a look at the top post of my journal:

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/AntiFascist

and notice how the paleoconservative American Conservative Magazine was encouraging its readers to vote Democratic in the midterm elections! Military journals were calling for the resignation of Rumsfeld, in direct defiance of the President. This is serious stuff, and it indicates that Americans of all political stripes are not necessarilly willing to put up with this Administration's bullshit.

41. Isn't There An Old Saying About "Killing The King"?
You don't wound him, you have to take him out. An impeachment without a full Senate conviction is a futile political game and will result in booosh walking away with little more than a wrist slap.

I'd far prefer the judgement on this regime done by a jury of 12 citizens in a court of law and determining on the large amount of evidence that has and will be gathered by Congressional investigation than relying on 435 and 100 politically conflicted weathervanes...allowing for many beside booosh and cheney who have blood on their hands to slip free.

If there's anything we should be pushing for, it's to prevent this regime from issuing wholescale pardons and pushing legislation that would prevent booosh from giving immunity to those who plundered this country's financial and youthful resources for their own greed and power.

Cheers...

It would be morally criminal not to impeach. Investigations and evidence first. Once the evidence is in then it will be legally criminal not to impeach.

Let's investigate, let's legislate, let's fix some things that have been broken and prove to the American people that we can lead responsibly and create prosperity while having the best interests of this country and its citizens at heart.

Impeachment would be a hugely futile distraction that would accomplish nothing and hinder us from doing so many other good things that the American people need us to do. This is merely the beginning of the Democratic Party being able to regain the trust and confidence of the American people on a road of majority that will hopefully last quite some time. There is so much good we can do for this country. There is so much that needs to be done. We have a chance to prove ourselves anew and I for one have all the confidence in the world that we will legislate with the utmost integrity and honor. If we go right out the gates with a pre-determined DSM-like push for impeachment than we throw all that good will and future potential away, just for a symbolic maneuver that has no chance whatsoever of succeeding.

I'm not going to throw away our longevity and ability to work towards making this country great again just for some fool-hearty and futile gesture.

To each their own. But that's where I stand.

37. I cannot speak for the OP...
but I would continue to push for the people to call for impeachment, be they Democratic or Republican or Independent. This will encourage our Representatives to conduct the necessary intensive investigations, and I'm confident that they will not hastily do something that might jeopardize our success in the future.

Impeachment is the weapon we gave Congress to defend against threats from wihin. When she took it "of the table" on behalf of the Democratic caucus she made it impossible for them to fulfill their oath -- a "pre-emptive surrender." If she doesn't put it back on the table, this is the oath she will have to administer (at least it's the one the Democratic caucus will have to take:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and be derelict in my duty
to
defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign
and domestic; that I will
bear foreswear true faith and allegiance to the same;
that I will fail to take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation
or purpose of evasion; and that I will
well and faithfully negligently and
faithlessly
discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter:

So help me God.

Those who say that Democrats shouldn't be motivated by things like revenge and gamesmanship overlook how vicious and opportnistic our enemies are. If they can impeach Clinton for virtually nothing, it is only fair to impeach Bush for virtually everything.
