Poll question: Is Lieberman worth it? |
|
Pro:
Joe Lieberman will vote with the Democratic caucus and his vote means we are the majority party in the US Senate. This means Dems will control committees and have a big say on what advances to the floor.
Con:
Joe Lieberman will blackmail democrats with his vote (he already has made insinuations that if he doesn't feel welcome he wants he might take a "walk" over to the GOP). He has hired a very right wing Republican to be his communications director--which is making Dems very nervous.

Frankly, I don't think Joe is going to be an asset, at all. I wouldn't count him in the "D" column.

3. It is looking good right now |
|
for the dems to gain more seats in '08 because there are so many more R's up for reelection. If he switches now he might find himself in the minority in two years. That may keep him in line somewhat. Right now the dems are stuck with him. Their big mistake was not supporting Lamont more strongly in the first place.

11. Absolutely. There should have been no question that the Dems in a |
|
blue state should have voted for Lamont.

4. Lieberman is an I.D. - Independent Democrat. |
|
I'd add I.O.T. (Intent on Turmoil)to that. His bossing around/hints of dissension of Democratic leaders and fellow Democrats are both worrisome and foretell the future.

5. As long as Lieberman caucuses with the Democrats |
|
he counts in the Democratic column. Be real people. Would you rather give the Republicans control of the Senate? Deal with it for 2 years and then increase the Democratic majority in the Senate. Remember: "Keep your friends close and your enemies, closer". No need to bite your nose off to spite your face over this one.

7. Sadly, as long as he's the deciding vote for Democratic control of the Senate, he's worth it |
|
However, with any luck, in 2008 we'll pick up more seats and we'll be free to strip him of his seniority and tell him to take a hike.

8. Is it true that Bullmoose, his communications guy, could have access.. |
|
and sit in on sessions with the Senate leadership?
If that is true, then something is wrong. Wittmann was McCain's campaign guy.

12. Of course he is...I am stunned at the # of No Votes... |
|
IF Lieberman has to be endured so that we can have the following:
Harry Reid instead of Mitch McConnell...
Ted Kennedy instead of Mike Enzi...
Barbara Boxer instead of James Inhofe...
and most importantly
Patrick Leahy instead of Orin Hatch..
OF COURSE IT IS!!!
Jeez I am stunned by the number of people who would simply be willing to tosss away our majority t o teach Joe Lieberman a lesson!
